So I ended up at Motel One München-Parkstadt Schwabing last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that surprises you in the best way. The name might throw you off – I mean, “motel” doesn’t exactly scream luxury – but this isn’t your roadside American motel situation at all. It’s more like what Germans do when they take the motel concept and actually make it work.

The Schwabing-Parkstadt area is pretty brilliant if you know Munich even a little bit. You’re far enough from the tourist madness around Marienplatz that you can actually breathe, but still connected to everything that matters. The U-Bahn stops are walkable (and trust me, Munich’s public transport will spoil you), plus you’ve got this whole residential vibe going on that feels authentically local. I’d walk out in the mornings and see actual Müncheners heading to work, not just groups of tourists squinting at maps. There’s something refreshing about that, you know?

What really got me about this place was how they’ve nailed the details without being fussy about it. The lobby has this clean, almost Scandinavian thing happening – lots of natural light, comfortable seating that doesn’t look like it came from a hotel catalog. Check-in was stupidly efficient, which I appreciated after a long travel day. The rooms are compact but thoughtfully laid out – honestly, better use of space than some four-star places I’ve stayed. The bed was actually comfortable (not always a given), and the shower had proper water pressure. Sometimes it’s the simple things, right?

I’ll be real with you though – if you’re the type who needs a concierge and room service, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want a solid base for exploring Munich without paying through the nose, it’s pretty ideal. The neighborhood has some excellent local restaurants (there’s this Turkish place about ten minutes away that locals line up for), and you’re close enough to both the English Garden and the city center that you never feel stuck. Plus, parking wasn’t a nightmare, which anyone who’s driven in European cities will appreciate.

The 8.4 rating makes total sense to me. It’s not trying to be something it’s not – no marble lobbies or crystal chandeliers – but everything they do, they do well. Clean, comfortable, well-located, and priced fairly for what you get. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning to spend most of my time out exploring rather than lounging around the hotel. Sometimes you just need a really good home base, and that’s exactly what this place delivers.

  Very stylish clean hotel. Comfy quiet room. Roof top bar and drinks excellent quality. Close to English gardens

  Despite it being a short one-night stay, the room was comfortable and well-equipped with everything we needed.
  The modern design and cleanliness stood out, making it a perfect place to relax after a busy day at the festival.
  The location is convenient, with easy access to public transport and a short ride to the city center.
  Overall, it was a pleasant stay, and I’d definitely consider coming back.
