Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Arthotel Munich on Paul-Heyse-Straße, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical chain hotel. The building has this contemporary art-focused vibe that feels refreshingly different from the traditional Bavarian aesthetic you see everywhere else in Munich. It’s a three-star property, but honestly, the artistic touches throughout give it more personality than some higher-end places I’ve stayed at. The lobby showcases rotating local artwork, which I found way more interesting than the usual generic hotel decor.
Location That Actually Works
Here’s what I love about the location — you’re in Ludwigsvorstadt, which means you’re close enough to everything that matters but not stuck in the tourist chaos of Marienplatz. The main train station is literally a few minutes’ walk, so if you’re arriving by train or need to catch flights from the airport, it’s incredibly practical. What surprised me was how quiet the room was despite being so central. You can walk to the old town in about 15 minutes, or just hop on the U-Bahn — the Hauptbahnhof station gives you access to the entire city network.
The Room Experience
The rooms continue that art-focused theme, with original pieces on the walls that actually make you stop and look. I mean, it’s not groundbreaking, but it beats staring at mass-produced prints of flowers or whatever. The space itself is well-designed for a three-star — not huge, but everything has its place. The bed was comfortable enough, and I appreciated the modern bathroom setup. What really worked for me was the attention to lighting; they’ve got it figured out so you’re not squinting to read or dealing with harsh overhead lights.
Breakfast and Practical Perks
The buffet breakfast is solid — nothing fancy, but they cover all the basics with some local touches thrown in. Fresh bread, good coffee, and enough variety to keep you happy for a few days. What I didn’t expect was how smoothly everything ran; even when it got busy, the staff kept things stocked and organized. The private parking is a real bonus if you’re driving — finding parking in central Munich can be a nightmare, so having that sorted takes away a major headache.
Why Guests Love It
You know what makes this place work? It’s the combination of being genuinely well-located without the premium price tag of staying right in the Altstadt. Couples seem to particularly appreciate the neighborhood — it’s got that local feel with plenty of cafes and bars within walking distance, but you’re not dealing with crowds of tourists every time you step outside. The 8.2 rating reflects what I experienced: a hotel that delivers on the practical stuff while adding just enough character to make your stay memorable. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, which I actually found refreshing.

Guest Reviews
Easy access to train station. Breakfast was basic but plentiful. Staff were best part of this hotel.
What could be improved: We had booked a 3 bed room. The third bed was a single sofa chair which was segmented in 3 pieces with steel rods which could be felt along your back and the whole thing was as hard as a brick. We asked for a mattress topper or extra quilt but nothing was available. It actually hurt my back and had to take medication to rectify it. The pillows are very flimsy and non existent. Hotel decor is a bit average. It is worse in real life than online photos. Our room was quiet and inward facing however construction going on across the road at front so if you like to sleep with a window open, request a quiet room. Appreciate this is Munich but very average value for money.
Nice, quiet hotel close to station. Lovely breakfast
What could be improved: Difficult to get table for breakfast. Needs to be better organised
Close to the city center (about 15 min walk). Own parking although car should not be to big.
Breakfast is very very good…lot’s of choices and fresh! Also very clean so great comfort there.
Room was also good. Very clean and very comfortable!
Staff also friendly and helpful when needed.
Clean place, friendly staff.
Very good facilities, near the train station. Excellent breakfast buffet. Very helpful staff. Lovely contemporary “art “ decor in the public areas.
What could be improved: Lots of construction in the area, therefore noisy in the morning and throughout the day.
Comfortable rooms, good price, helpful staff
It is near the central station. It is clean and value for money
What could be improved: Please invest in better pillows. The ones you have are like non existent.
Clean room, comfortable bed, nice breakfast good location
What could be improved: The phone that in the room wasn’t working . I told to reception and they didn’t fix it I couldn’t reach any of hotel department while I stay.
Very clean and silently
Great breakfast buffet
Friendly staff
What could be improved: Parking extremely tight for bigger cars
