Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Hauser an der Universität, you immediately get that classic Munich vibe — it’s tucked right into Schellingstraße in Maxvorstadt, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better if you tried. This three-star hotel sits in one of those perfect spots where you’re close to everything but not drowning in tourist chaos. The building itself has that understated German charm, nothing flashy, but you can tell it’s been welcoming guests who know what they’re looking for.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about Maxvorstadt — it’s where Munich actually lives and breathes. You’re literally steps from the university district, which means great cafes, bookshops, and that authentic student energy that makes a city feel alive. The couples who stay here absolutely love it (they rate the location 9.6, which is pretty incredible), and I get why. You can walk to the English Garden in about ten minutes, the museums are right there, and you’re close enough to Marienplatz without being stuck in the middle of all that tourist madness. Plus, having private parking at the hotel is actually a huge deal in this part of Munich — trust me on that one.
The Rooms
The accommodations at Hotel Hauser an der Universität strike that perfect balance between comfort and practicality. You’re not getting bells and whistles, but everything works exactly as it should. The rooms feel distinctly German — clean lines, quality furnishings, and windows that actually open properly (something you’ll appreciate after staying in chain hotels). What I really noticed was how quiet it stays, even though you’re in the heart of the city. The beds are proper firm, the way Germans do it, and there’s enough space to spread out without feeling cramped.
Breakfast Experience
The buffet breakfast here is one of those pleasant surprises that sets the tone for your whole day. It’s not trying to be fancy, but they do the German breakfast thing really well — proper bread, good coffee, local cheeses and meats. You know what I mean, the kind of breakfast where you actually want to get up for it rather than just grabbing something quick. The dining room has this relaxed morning atmosphere where you can plan your day without feeling rushed, and the staff seems to genuinely care about getting you sorted.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Hotel Hauser an der Universität work so well is that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s a solid, well-run hotel in an absolutely prime location, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. The 8.5 rating reflects what you get — reliable comfort in one of Munich’s best neighborhoods. You’re paying for location and quality, not gimmicks, and when you’re exploring a city like Munich, that’s honestly the smart choice. Whether you’re here for the museums, the university area, or just want to experience Munich like locals do, this place puts you right where you want to be.
Hotel in Munich booking should be done early, especially during Oktoberfest when the city hosts the world’s largest beer festival and cultural celebration.

Guest Reviews
Ideal for exploring the galleries and the opera in Munich.
This small family run hotel is quiet, comfortable and very clean with a delicious breakfast.
I will certainly stay again.
Everything about the hotel was well thought out and convenient. Just lots of little touches, each one individually not so important and might even sound silly to mention, but all put together made perfect use of the available space in the room and made the stay so comfortable. Breakfast was very nice and the staff were helpful. Location is excellent: close to the Englischer Garten, a walkable distance from the old town and right next to the Universitaet station.
Very good located, very clean, nice and helping staff
The location, the privacy, breakfasts, excellent room service, the staff was very helpful, and no annoying. Very recommended
What could be improved: All good
The family owned atmosphere, the location, modern bathroom and sound proof windows
What could be improved: The wi fi was very sketchy. Constantly going out
The hotel was very clean and an easy walk to everything we wanted to do. Oktoberfest was only 20 minutes by public transit but we found the 40ish minute walk very nice. The breakfast buffet in the morning was wonderful and our room was perfect for two people.
What could be improved: We brought our own toiletries which was nice as the hotel had a 3in1 combo body wash shampoo but did not have conditioner.
The staff were very helpful and the environment was very clean
What could be improved: The breakfast choice was not for me.
Also, it would be nice if a kettle was provided in the room
Delicious breakfast. So close to Marienplatz and other tourist spots ... 20 to 30 minutes for me.
What could be improved: Bathroom may be cramped for some. I'm 6 feet tall and over 200 pounds but I didn't find it a problem.
all excellent
I was on a business trip, and I needed a convenient location close to the metro lines I needed to take. But even for a touristic visit, the location is actually very convenient. I was surprised at how efficient the hotel was, and it had a very good breakfast in the morning that I really enjoyed. The single room I had was not large, but it had everything I needed and was very practical.
