I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Würmtalhof Pension & Wirtshaus on Eversbuschstraße – I mean, it’s tucked away in Allach-Untermenzing, which honestly feels more like a quiet residential neighborhood than where you’d find a hotel. But that’s actually what makes this place work so well. It’s got that authentic Bavarian pension vibe that’s getting harder to find in Munich proper, where everything’s either been turned into a boutique hotel or costs a fortune.

The building itself has this lived-in charm – you can tell it’s been welcoming guests for decades, but in a good way. The wirtshaus (that’s the restaurant part) downstairs has those heavy wooden tables and that particular smell of good German cooking that just sort of wraps around you when you walk in. I actually ended up eating there twice during my stay because, well, the schnitzel was ridiculous and the local crowd made it feel genuine. The pension rooms upstairs are nothing fancy – we’re talking solid 3-star territory here – but they’re clean, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet considering you’re still technically in Munich. The beds are those firm German mattresses that take a night to get used to if you’re coming from somewhere with softer bedding, but I slept like a rock once I adjusted.

What I really appreciated was how easy it made getting around without dealing with Munich’s city center chaos. The S-Bahn connection isn’t right outside your door, but it’s a reasonable walk or short bus ride, and honestly? Sometimes it’s nice to come back to a neighborhood where people are walking their dogs and tending their gardens instead of dodging tourist groups. Parking was straightforward too – none of that nightmare you get trying to find a spot in Marienplatz area. The staff actually knew the area and could point you toward local spots that weren’t in my guidebook, which is always a good sign. I mean, they suggested this little bakery about ten minutes away that had the best pretzels I had in Germany, and I hit a lot of bakeries on that trip. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. If you’re looking for that authentic Bavarian experience without paying Munich tourist prices, and you don’t mind being a little outside the immediate action, this place hits the sweet spot between comfortable and characterful.

  Die Unterkunft ist gut mit Bahn zu erreichen. Vom S Bahnhof 10 min Fußweg oder 1 Station mit dem Bus. Am Abend unten im Gasthof was gegessen, ist absolut zu empfehlen.

  Besonders gut gefällt mir, wie idyllisch die Unterkunft ist, auch die Einrichtung… selbst im Herbst stelle ich mir das hier wunderschön vor!
  
  What could be improved: Eigentlich… war alles wirklich hervorragend… natürlich könnte die Sbahn näher sein aber ich denke das ist das kleinste, da fährt ein Bus direkt vor der Türe 🙂
