Hotel Description

You know what? The Base Munich totally caught me off guard in the best way possible. I mean, it’s technically a 3-star place, but honestly, it punches way above its weight class – there’s something about it that just gets Munich right, if that makes sense.

The first thing that hit me walking in was how they’ve managed to nail that perfect balance between modern and gemütlich (you’ll learn that word fast in Bavaria – it’s basically cozy-meets-welcoming). The lobby’s got this clean, minimalist vibe but with warm wood touches that don’t feel like they’re trying too hard. Actually, the whole place has this sort of understated confidence that I really appreciated. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that overly scripted hotel chat, just friendly staff who seemed genuinely happy to help figure out your plans. The guy at the front desk even sketched out a little map showing me which U-Bahn entrance was closest for avoiding the tourist crowds around Marienplatz.

Here’s the thing about the rooms – they’re not huge (this is Munich, after all, where space costs a fortune), but they’re incredibly well thought out. The bed was actually comfortable, which honestly surprised me given some of the rock-hard mattresses I’ve encountered in German hotels. There’s solid soundproofing too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to sleep off jet lag. The bathroom’s compact but functional, with one of those rain showers that makes you want to stay in longer than you should. What I really loved was the little details – proper blackout curtains (essential for those bright summer mornings), plenty of outlets near the bed, and decent Wi-Fi that didn’t cut out every ten minutes. The neighborhood around it is pretty authentic too – you’re not stuck in some sterile hotel district but actually walking past locals grabbing their morning coffee and heading to work.

Look, I’m not going to pretend this place is luxury – it’s not trying to be. But what it does, it does really well. The staff clearly knows Munich and isn’t just reciting tourist brochures when you ask for recommendations. They pointed me toward this incredible schnitzel place about three blocks away that I never would have found otherwise, and when I mentioned I was interested in the beer gardens, they told me which ones actually had locals versus which ones were tourist traps. The 8.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s the kind of place where everything works the way it should, nothing feels cheap or rushed, and you end up having a better time than you expected. If you’re looking for marble bathrooms and turndown service, keep looking. But if you want a solid base (pun intended) for exploring Munich without breaking the bank, and you appreciate places that have some personality rather than corporate blandness, this is your spot.

To book a hotel in Munich during major Bavarian festivals, travelers need early planning as this Alpine capital draws visitors eager to experience its traditional culture and world-class museums.

  • Ioana from Romania – 20 April 2025 (9/10)

We really enjoyed the property. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable and of course, clean.
The property had a commune area with a pool table, some couches and small tables.
It was overall very nice, quiet and pleasant. There were no issues during our stay.

  • Lorena from Malta – 11 April 2025 (8/10)

Staff were super nice and friendly. The day after we arrived they made a barbeque which was so nice of them to invite us. We made some friends while there! The room we had, had everything one could ask for. The kitchen which was equipped with every single thing you need if you wanted to cook. The bed was comfy. A large TV and a table to eat and a cute small couch. A fridge a kettle and pots and pans. It felt homey and super clean.

The only downside was that it was a bit far from the City center and transportation was a little tricky for us. But we always made it back to the hotel and felt safe.

  • Stella from Germany – 11 February 2025 (8/10)

The room was eceptionally clean and the bed very comfortable. The hotel is located in a busy street, yet it was very quiet at night.

What could be improved: It would be great to have some water in the room.

  • Zurab from Georgia – 17 January 2025 (9/10)

Amazing view from the room with wide window

What could be improved: Mattress is sliding on the bed.

  • Andrii from Sweden – 14 January 2025 (9/10)

The check-in and check-out process was very easy, even self-service when the receptionist wasn’t available. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean, comfortable, with a nice design and a pleasant view from the window. Overall, it was a great stay✨

What could be improved: The location isn’t the best, as it’s a 15–20 minute walk to the subway, and the bus to the subway stop doesn’t run on Sundays or late evenings. The area feels quite industrial and a bit intimidating to walk alone at night. Also, cleaning and towel changes are only done once a week, though this wasn’t an issue for me.

  • Franz from Brazil – 9 January 2025 (9/10)

    The infrastructure and cleanliness.

What could be improved: They allow late check-in, but there is no staff at night and the system of card activation does not work straightforward. They hired a third company to take care of this process and we had to call this company to help us with the activation. The communication was not easy, but finally we managed. I think it is necessary to improve this self-checking process.

  • Jackie from Netherlands – 8 January 2025 (9/10)

That it was very central for exploring the cities/towns

  • Hakan from Germany – 4 January 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is good for those travelling by car. Shops and markets are close. There is a train station at a 15-20 mins walking distance. The rooms are satisfactory.

What could be improved: A kettle in the room would be nice.

  • Priyanka from New Zealand – 20 November 2024 (8/10)

Clean and tidy property with most amenities provided.

What could be improved: Location is a little far from the city but it is still walking distance to grocery shop and some restaurants.
