Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Residence Inn Munich City East, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s one of those extended-stay places that could easily blend into corporate blandness, but this one actually surprised me. The building itself sits in what locals call the “new Munich” area, and while it doesn’t have that postcard-perfect Bavarian charm you get near Marienplatz, there’s something refreshing about being where actual Müncheners live and work.

What really won me over was how the place just… works. You know what I mean? The rooms are proper apartments with full kitchens – not those sad little kitchenettes with a broken microwave. I mean, you’ve got a real stovetop, full-size fridge, and counter space where you can actually spread out your farmer’s market haul from Viktualienmarkt (which, by the way, is totally doable as a day trip from here). The living areas don’t feel cramped either, and honestly, after spending weeks in typical European hotel boxes, having space to properly unpack felt like luxury. The Wi-Fi actually works reliably too – I was doing video calls without that usual hotel internet anxiety.

Here’s the thing about the location that took me a while to appreciate: you’re positioned perfectly for exploring Munich without dealing with all the tourist chaos. The U-Bahn connections are solid, and you can get into the city center in maybe 20 minutes, but when you come back at night, you’re in this quieter residential zone where you can actually hear yourself think. There’s a decent grocery store within walking distance – nothing fancy, but perfect for grabbing breakfast stuff or a bottle of wine. Parking was surprisingly painless too, which anyone who’s driven in Munich will tell you is basically a miracle. The staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions, and check-in was refreshingly efficient. Sure, it’s not going to give you that “I’m staying in a Bavarian fairy tale” feeling, but sometimes you need a place that’s more about comfort than Instagram moments. For longer stays especially, this place gets the balance right between having space to live and being connected to everything that makes Munich worth visiting.

Reviews

  • Sundaraj from Singapore – 22 May 2025 (7/10)

The proximity to public transportation and its central lication

What could be improved: The room provided was facing the rail line. The aircon was very u reliable. The TV the provided couldn't connect with my Ipad. They tried for two days to fix the problem and gave up after that. No apology provided.

  • Carl from United States – 19 May 2025 (9/10)

Breakfast choices and quality was top notch. Coffee and cappuccino machine were great! Mix of all kinds of foods for from GF to local customary foods to American familiar food.

  • Nicolette from Canada – 19 May 2025 (8/10)

    Buffet breakfast was excellent!

  • Rebecca from United Kingdom – 5 May 2025 (9/10)

Great hotel in Haidhausen. Our studio was lovely. Loads of space and high end fittings. Comfortable bed. Everything you could need in the kitchen area for a short stay. Friendly staff.

What could be improved: The shower wasn’t very powerful. Breakfast a bit chaotic. Plenty of food, with frequent top ups, but the tables weren’t being cleared fast enough.

  • Julia from Estonia – 28 April 2025 (9/10)

Our room was very spacious and included everything down to basics in the kitchen. Even though the hotel is quite close to train station and train tracks – we didn't hear any noise, despite having our windows facing the tracks. The neighbourhood is very nice, full of greenery and has some good options for eating out.

  • Vasso from Cyprus – 27 April 2025 (9/10)

Very clean and comfortable. Good breakfast. Nice location, next to train sration and local restaurants

What could be improved: A pair of sleepers would have been nice, but not a big issue. Also the toileteries could have been a bit better

  • Elham from Austria – 22 April 2025 (8/10)

Clean, comfortable, good location, easy access to public transport,

What could be improved: Breakfast was very good but does not diversity in different days, we had 4 nights and the same breakfast all days

Bathroom without a proper air conditioner that I didn't like

  • Stavros from Netherlands – 22 April 2025 (8/10)

Good breakfast, friendly personnel, quiet location

What could be improved: Room/cleaning service not in line with expectations, wrong timing or no clean up of the room 2 out of the 3 days of a short stay

  • Alexander from South Africa – 25 March 2025 (9/10)

Breakfast was excellent in terms of choices and variety. It more than met our dietary needs, Our room was spacious and well put together. Although we didn't need or make use of the hob and cooking utensils it was a bonus. The location placed us within easy walking distance from Ostbahnhof. A very unique feature was the complementary, small plated snacks we found in the lobby every evening.

What could be improved: Although we were not bothered by the constant train noises, it could prove to be a distraction to other guests.

  • Andrew from Austria – 27 February 2025 (9/10)

Staff lovely, super comfortable bed, very good breakfast
