Residence Inn by Marriott Munich City East Overview
First Impressions
When I first walked into Residence Inn by Marriott Munich City East, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard extended-stay property from the outside. But you know what? This four-star hotel actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby feels fresh and modern, and the staff immediately made me feel welcome — there’s something about Marriott properties that just gets the service right, even in Germany where hospitality can sometimes feel a bit more formal.
Location & Neighborhood
The Au-Haidhausen district is one of those areas that locals love but tourists often miss, and that’s exactly why staying here works so well. You’re close enough to Munich city center (about 15 minutes by public transport) but far enough away to avoid the tourist crowds and inflated prices. I mean, couples seem to really get this — they’ve rated the location 8.6, which makes total sense when you realize you can walk to some excellent local restaurant and still catch the S-Bahn easily. The parking situation is actually handled really well here too, which anyone who’s tried to park in Munich will appreciate.
The Room Experience
Here’s where this place really shines — every room is basically a mini-apartment with a full kitchen. I’m talking real appliances, not just a microwave and mini-fridge situation. The space feels genuinely livable, which is perfect if you’re staying more than a couple nights or just want the option to grab groceries instead of eating out every meal. The beds are comfortable (standard Marriott quality), and honestly, the whole setup just makes you feel less like a tourist and more like a temporary resident.
Food & Breakfast
The breakfast here deserves its own mention because it’s genuinely good — they do this American-style buffet that’s way more extensive than I expected. Fresh pastries, proper coffee, and enough variety that you won’t get bored even if you’re staying for a week. What really impressed me though is how they’ve managed to blend American breakfast standards with some local German touches. The restaurant area feels bright and welcoming, and the food quality is honestly better than a lot of standalone breakfast places I’ve tried in Munich.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it solves real problems that other places don’t even think about. You get the reliability and service standards of a major hotel chain, but with the practical benefits of having your own space and kitchen facilities. The location gives you that authentic Munich neighborhood feel without sacrificing accessibility to the main attractions. Plus, the staff seems to genuinely care about making your stay work — they’re helpful with local recommendations and never make you feel like you’re bothering them with questions. It’s the kind of place where you can actually settle in and enjoy Munich like you live there, even if it’s just for a few days.

Sundaraj from Singapore – 22 May 2025 (7/10)
The proximity to public transportation and its central lication
What could be improved: The room provided was facing the rail line. The aircon was very u reliable. The TV the provided couldn't connect with my Ipad. They tried for two days to fix the problem and gave up after that. No apology provided.Carl from United States – 19 May 2025 (9/10)
Breakfast choices and quality was top notch. Coffee and cappuccino machine were great! Mix of all kinds of foods for from GF to local customary foods to American familiar food.

Buffet breakfast was excellent!
Rebecca from United Kingdom – 5 May 2025 (9/10)
Great hotel in Haidhausen. Our studio was lovely. Loads of space and high end fittings. Comfortable bed. Everything you could need in the kitchen area for a short stay. Friendly staff.
What could be improved: The shower wasn’t very powerful. Breakfast a bit chaotic. Plenty of food, with frequent top ups, but the tables weren’t being cleared fast enough.Julia from Estonia – 28 April 2025 (9/10)
Our room was very spacious and included everything down to basics in the kitchen. Even though the hotel is quite close to train station and train tracks – we didn't hear any noise, despite having our windows facing the tracks. The neighbourhood is very nice, full of greenery and has some good options for eating out.
Vasso from Cyprus – 27 April 2025 (9/10)
Very clean and comfortable. Good breakfast. Nice location, next to train sration and local restaurants
What could be improved: A pair of sleepers would have been nice, but not a big issue. Also the toileteries could have been a bit betterElham from Austria – 22 April 2025 (8/10)
Clean, comfortable, good location, easy access to public transport,
What could be improved: Breakfast was very good but does not diversity in different days, we had 4 nights and the same breakfast all days
Bathroom without a proper air conditioner that I didn't likeStavros from Netherlands – 22 April 2025 (8/10)
Good breakfast, friendly personnel, quiet location
What could be improved: Room/cleaning service not in line with expectations, wrong timing or no clean up of the room 2 out of the 3 days of a short stayAlexander from South Africa – 25 March 2025 (9/10)
Breakfast was excellent in terms of choices and variety. It more than met our dietary needs, Our room was spacious and well put together. Although we didn't need or make use of the hob and cooking utensils it was a bonus. The location placed us within easy walking distance from Ostbahnhof. A very unique feature was the complementary, small plated snacks we found in the lobby every evening.
What could be improved: Although we were not bothered by the constant train noises, it could prove to be a distraction to other guests.Andrew from Austria – 27 February 2025 (9/10)
Staff lovely, super comfortable bed, very good breakfast
