So I actually got to check out the Nena Apartments München City East when they first opened this year, and honestly? I wasn’t sure what to expect from a brand-new place, but this spot really surprised me. It’s tucked away in the eastern part of Munich – you know, that area that’s becoming increasingly popular with locals but hasn’t been totally overrun by tourists yet. The whole building has that fresh paint smell and everything works perfectly (which, let’s be honest, is refreshing after staying in some of Munich’s older properties where the shower takes five minutes to heat up).

What really struck me was how they managed to nail that sweet spot between apartment-style independence and actual hotel service. The units themselves are clean and modern – I mean, everything is literally brand new – but they don’t feel sterile or corporate. The kitchenettes are actually functional, not just for show, which is huge if you’re staying more than a couple nights or traveling with kids. The beds are surprisingly comfortable too, and the soundproofing is solid. I was worried about street noise since it’s still the city, but honestly slept better there than at some fancier places in the center where you’ve got trams clattering by at all hours.

Location-wise, you’re definitely in a more residential vibe rather than right in the tourist thick of things, but that’s actually part of the appeal. There’s a decent U-Bahn connection nearby – I could get to Marienplatz in about 20 minutes without any fuss. Plus the neighborhood has some genuinely good local spots for dinner that you’d never find if you stayed in Altstadt. The staff, when I did interact with them, seemed to actually know the area well and could point you toward the good bakery around the corner (not just the tourist traps). Check-in was smooth – they’ve got their systems figured out already, which is impressive for such a new opening. I sort of expected some growing pains, but everything ran like they’d been operating for years. The 8.7 rating makes total sense to me because while it’s not luxury by any stretch, it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. For the price point and the fact that you get proper apartment space, it’s honestly a solid choice if you want to experience Munich more like a local rather than just hitting the major sights and calling it a trip.
