Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to this Motel One near the Deutsches Museum, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. The location alone had me sold before I even got to my room – I mean, you’re literally a stone’s throw from one of Munich’s coolest museums, and the Isar River is right there for those early morning jogs (or late-night beer walks, let’s be real).

The thing about this place is it gets the basics absolutely right without trying to be something it’s not. Check-in was smooth – none of that awkward waiting around while they “prepare your keycard” nonsense. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe that actually feels thought-out rather than thrown together, and honestly, after a long day of wandering around Munich’s cobblestone streets, that matters more than you’d think. My room was compact but cleverly designed – everything had its place, the bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless. I really appreciated that they didn’t try to cram unnecessary furniture into a small space just to look fancy. The Wi-Fi actually worked well too, which, let’s face it, is becoming rarer than it should be.

What really won me over was how effortlessly this place connects you to the real Munich. You’re close enough to walk to the city center when you feel like dealing with crowds, but far enough away that you can duck back to a quieter neighborhood when you need a breather. There’s this great little stretch along the river where locals walk their dogs and couples sit on benches – it’s one of those authentic Munich moments you can’t really plan for. Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Munich by car will tell you is basically a miracle. The 8.3 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it delivers exactly what it promises with a level of attention that feels genuine rather than corporate. If you’re the type of traveler who values location, cleanliness, and honest service over marble lobbies and overpriced minibars, this place will probably surprise you in the best way possible.

Reviews

  • Rebecca from Australia – 25 May 2025 (9/10)

Great bar area downstairs which was especially helpful with a late flight out of Munich. The staff have all been exceptionally helpful and friendly.

What could be improved: Room is on the smaller side when travelling with 2 large bags but this was manageable. The other great qualities of the motel made this a non issue for us.

  • Michael from United Kingdom – 24 May 2025 (9/10)

Comfortable, good staff, good breakfast, spotless. I would certainly choose motel one again

  • Stef from France – 22 May 2025 (9/10)

Modern, clean and well-located hotel. Very nice and lively bar. Gave me a calm room, as requested.

What could be improved: Not a big deal, but a complimentary bottle of water in the room might have been nice.

  • Gonenc from Austria – 21 April 2025 (9/10)

I didn’t know this chain hotel before, it was much better than any other low cost ones. Very neatly arranged, great value for money, few minutes walk from the old town. Good variety breakfast with gluten-free and non-dairy options. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.

What could be improved: Rooms are small. A coffee machine or water heater would be nice.

  • Cameron from Australia – 21 April 2025 (8/10)

My wife got sick, but the staff were so great at assisting.

  • Kate from United Kingdom – 17 April 2025 (8/10)
