Hotel Description
So I ended up at the Mercure München am Olympiapark during my Munich trip, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. When you first pull up, it’s got that solid, no-nonsense German hotel vibe – not flashy, but you immediately know they’ve got their act together. The building itself sits in this interesting spot where you’re close enough to hear the occasional rumble from Olympic events (which is actually kind of cool when there’s something happening), but far enough that it’s not keeping you up at night.
What really sold me on this place was how it felt like staying in an actual neighborhood rather than some tourist bubble. You’ve got the Olympiapark right there – and I mean, you can literally walk to those iconic towers in about ten minutes. But here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: there’s this whole residential area around the hotel where locals actually live and work. I found myself grabbing coffee at this little bakery around the corner most mornings because, well, the hotel breakfast was fine but nothing special. The staff seemed genuinely surprised when I asked about local spots, which makes me think most guests just stick to the obvious tourist stuff.
The rooms are what you’d expect from a 3-star Mercure – clean, functional, with that particular European efficiency where everything has its place. The beds are actually really comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have those rainfall showers that work better than expected. You know what impressed me most though? The soundproofing. Even when there was some kind of event at the Olympic facilities, I barely heard anything once I closed the windows. The Wi-Fi was solid too, which matters when you’re trying to plan your days. My only real gripe was the air conditioning – it’s there, but it’s one of those systems that seems to have a mind of its own. During the summer months, you might find yourself playing with the controls more than you’d like. The whole place has this understated reliability about it that I’ve come to associate with well-run German hotels – nothing’s going to wow you, but nothing’s going to disappoint you either. If you’re looking for Instagram-worthy luxury, this isn’t it. But if you want a solid base for exploring Munich without paying city center prices, and you don’t mind being a quick U-Bahn ride from the main action, it’s actually a pretty smart choice.
Best hotels in Munich range from charming boutique properties near Marienplatz to elegant Bavarian-style hotels with stunning views of the Alps and historic city center.

Everything was excellent . Tram and bus stops are virtually right outside the hotel . There are 2 supermarkets within a 5 minute walk . Plenty of cafes and restaurants and bars nearby . Perfect base for running Munich Marathon .
Gal from Germany – 7 October 2024 (8/10)
The reception desk was staffed around the clock, and the staff was always friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and the tea and coffee equipment was a nice and helpful touch. The TV doesn't include any streaming services but it does have a screen mirroring option which was useful. The bed was comfortable, especially the pillows which weren't the usual big German type. We had enough towels, toiletries and closet space for the whole of our stay
What could be improved: The parking was a little expensive considering it's not directly attached to the hotel. The shower is somewhat on the smaller side. The elevator only goes up to the third floor and we stayed on the fourth, which we didn't mind but might be good to know for travelers with lots of luggageKaran from United Kingdom – 29 September 2024 (7/10)
Perfect location near the main tram line
What could be improved: Only the price we stayed for a concerts and the price was inflatedKen from Ireland – 16 September 2024 (8/10)
Room was excellent (except for the shower size), breakfast was good, location was fine as we were attending a wedding in the Nymphenburg palace
What could be improved: Shower is a bit small, awkward to get in and out of. Did not seem to be a black tea option at breakfast but these are minor detailsHelen from United Kingdom – 20 August 2024 (8/10)
Great location for concert and the Olympic park (walkable ) and trams into the city. Friendly local hotel with a nice bakery for breakfast next door.
What could be improved: Last stay got one of the cheaper rooms on the top floor and that was very hot. Went for a slightly more expensive room this time and was on a lower floor and much bigger/ cooler . Would recommendDmytro from Ukraine – 18 August 2024 (9/10)
Good location
What could be improved: Size if the roomHolly from Australia – 11 June 2024 (8/10)
The room was clean and comfortable, very cosy bed and nice shower. Great location and exceptionally quiet. Staff were very helpful, recommended restaurants in the area and happy to organise a taxi for us.
What could be improved: The elevator only goes to the 3rd floor, so carrying suitcases up a flight of stairs to the 4th wasn't easy.
The room was small so wouldn't stay more than a night or 2.Frida from Norway – 10 June 2024 (9/10)
The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Location was perfect for my visit to München.
What could be improved: Wi-Fi did not work on the 4th floor where my room was.Michaela from Austria – 28 March 2024 (8/10)
Very easy to reach from Main Train Station, only 5 stops with tram. Room doors have great decoration of historical women's portraits, funky colorful interior design. Plentiful eating / bakery options in 3-block radius, very practical.
