Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Living Hotel Das Viktualienmarkt? The lobby actually feels more like stepping into someone’s really well-designed apartment than a typical hotel. I mean, it’s got this whole contemporary vibe going on, but not in that sterile, Instagram-perfect way that makes you afraid to touch anything. The furniture has character – you can tell they put thought into every piece instead of just ordering everything from the same hotel catalog.
The location is honestly the real winner here. You’re literally steps away from Viktualienmarkt, which if you haven’t been, is Munich’s incredible food market that’s been around forever. I’m talking about the kind of place where locals actually shop for their groceries alongside tourists hunting for bratwurst – and somehow it all works perfectly. You can grab fresh flowers, ridiculously good cheese, or just sit at one of the beer garden tables with a proper Bavarian pretzel. What I love is that you’re right in the thick of things, but the hotel itself sits just off the main hustle, so you’re not dealing with constant street noise at night. The rooms are surprisingly quiet considering you’re in the city center – though honestly, weekend nights can get a bit lively since you’re near some popular bars. Check-in was smooth, and the staff actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give me solid restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. The 4-star rating feels about right – it’s polished and comfortable without being stuffy, and that 8.1 rating makes sense because while everything works well, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches.
Here’s the thing though – this place gets what modern travelers actually want. The rooms have proper work spaces if you need to catch up on emails, the WiFi doesn’t make you want to throw your laptop out the window, and there’s enough storage that you’re not living out of your suitcase for a week. Plus, and this might sound small but it matters, the shower pressure is actually decent. I’ve stayed at fancier places where you feel like you’re getting misted by a house plant. The whole setup feels like they designed it for people who travel regularly and know what’s annoying versus what’s actually useful. If you’re the type who likes to explore neighborhoods on foot and wants to feel like you’re staying somewhere with personality rather than just a place to crash, this works really well. Just book early if you’re coming during Oktoberfest season – everything in Munich gets crazy competitive then.
Hotels in Munich offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this Alpine metropolis, with easy access to castles, museums, and traditional German experiences.

Guest Reviews
Amazing location.
The complimentary drinks in the minibar (refilled daily) were a generous and thoughtful touch.
The room was huge and very spacious, with plenty of storage.
What could be improved: The air conditioner was very noisy and didn’t cool the room effectively.
Water pressure in the shower was weak, and there wasn’t enough hot water for two people to shower consecutively.
The cleanliness could be improved. I even spotted two cockroaches in my room during my stay.
Breakfast felt overpriced for what it offered.
The location was perfect and the restaurant very good
What could be improved: The room under the room got very warm
Located right in the center of Munich, very clean, nice stuff
What could be improved: This feels more like a hostel rather than a hotel. No lobby, no hotel facilities - very strange experience..
The room is a bit dark and there is noise from the outside.
What could be improved: Rooms need more sitting area…at least enough for 2
Room, free mini bar
What could be improved: nothing
Super location, very kind staff.
What could be improved: Breakfast buffet is very crammed space wise.
Absolutely fantastic location opposite Viktualienmarkt. Super friendly staff and receptionists. Delicious breakfast and cool interior design. Would definitely recommend
What could be improved: There was no aircon in our room under the roof. It can become very hot in summer.
The rooms have wooden floor, hence you hear a lot of the neighbours stomping, trampling and kids jumping or throwing luggage pieces. You could also hear neighbours showering or flushing the toilet.
We used their valet parking and got the car back with huge scratches on the side door. Unfortunately we saw it only when we had left as we were in a rush…. Bad luck - probably also not the hotel’s fault
Location is suberb and love the free mini bar
What could be improved: More coffee pods please
The personal was so supportive and friendly. And the location was just perfect.
Great staff
