You know what struck me first about the ibis Styles Muenchen Perlach? It’s actually got personality – which honestly surprised me for a 3-star chain hotel. I mean, most ibis properties are pretty straightforward, but this one in Perlach has this quirky, colorful vibe that makes you forget you’re staying at what’s essentially a business hotel. The lobby’s got these bold geometric patterns and bright artwork that somehow works without being overwhelming, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to be there when I checked in around 3 PM on a Tuesday.

The location is pretty clever if you know Munich at all. Perlach isn’t exactly the old town – you’re not stumbling out your door onto Marienplatz or anything – but that’s actually the beauty of it. You’re in this residential area that feels authentically Munich, with the U5 line literally a few minutes’ walk away that’ll get you to the city center in about 20 minutes. I stayed here during Oktoberfest season (yeah, I know, crazy time to visit) and while the hotel was busy, it wasn’t that insane tourist chaos you get closer to the Theresienwiese. Plus there’s this decent Turkish place just down the street that locals actually eat at – found it by accident when I was wandering around jet-lagged on my first night.

The rooms are what you’d expect from ibis Styles, but done well. Mine faced the courtyard so it was surprisingly quiet for being in a city, though I imagine the street-facing ones might pick up some traffic noise. The bathroom was compact but functional, and honestly the shower pressure was better than some 4-star places I’ve stayed. What I really appreciated were the little thoughtful touches – decent lighting for actually reading, enough outlets near the bed (why is this still rare?), and a mini-fridge that actually gets cold. The air conditioning worked without sounding like a jet engine, which was clutch during that warm spell in September. Breakfast was solid too – nothing fancy, but fresh bread, good coffee, and they had actual Weisswurst on weekends which made me ridiculously happy. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me; it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but it delivers on what matters. If you’re looking for a reliable base to explore Munich without paying old town prices, and you don’t mind a short U-Bahn ride to the tourist stuff, this place really works.

  Nice and comfortable, clean, location wasn't important to us, as we just stayed overnight but it is in a great location.
