Overview
First Impressions
Walking into ibis Hotel München City, you immediately get that clean, no-nonsense vibe that ibis does so well. It’s not trying to be fancy — this is a solid three-star hotel that knows exactly what it is. The lobby feels fresh and modern, with that signature red accent color popping against neutral tones. Honestly, after a long day of travel, there’s something reassuring about a place that just works without any pretense.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about Maxvorstadt — you’re actually in one of Munich‘s best neighborhoods, and most tourists don’t realize it. The hotel sits on Dachauer Straße, which means you’re walking distance to both the old town and the university district. I mean, you can stroll to Marienplatz in about 15 minutes, but you’re also close to some fantastic local spots that aren’t crawling with tour groups. The U-Bahn connections are excellent too — Theresienstraße station is right there, so getting to Oktoberfest grounds or the airport is straightforward.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from ibis — compact but cleverly designed. Everything has its place, the bed is surprisingly comfortable (they use those Sweet Bed mattresses), and the shower actually has decent water pressure. The soundproofing works well too, which matters when you’re on a busy street. You know what I appreciated? The air conditioning that actually keeps the room cool during Munich’s surprisingly warm summers, and the free WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes.
Breakfast & Practical Stuff
The breakfast buffet here is honestly better than it needs to be for a hotel at this price point. They’ve got the full English spread, but also plenty of German breads, cold cuts, and even vegan options — which is pretty thoughtful. The coffee’s decent (not amazing, but it’ll wake you up), and they keep everything well-stocked even during busy periods. Parking is available if you’re driving, though I’d recommend just using public transport in Munich. The front desk staff speaks excellent English and actually seems to enjoy helping guests figure out their plans.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a fancy experience, but it’s exactly what many travelers need — a clean, comfortable base in an excellent location that won’t break the bank. Couples especially seem to love the area (and I get why — there are some great little bars and restaurants within walking distance), plus you’re close enough to everything important without being in the thick of the tourist chaos. The hotel delivers on the basics really well, and sometimes that’s more valuable than fancy amenities you’ll never use. For the price and location, it’s honestly hard to beat in Munich.

Guest Reviews
We stayed in the hotel later in April. The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. The location is very convenient with lots of restaurants nearby. Recommended for short stay.
What could be improved: Street noise (maybe only Saturday night during our stay).
The location was fantastic to the central train station, restaurants, and shopping.
Great location. Very clean
What could be improved: The hotel faces a road with a tram rails. So it is a bit noisy. Nothing unbearable but worth mentioning it. The bath is very small. I'm 183cm, 82kg and I can't imagine someone bigger than to be able to use it. A bit pricy but considering the location I think it is ok
The hotel is located in a great location, 10 minutes on foot from the city center. The staff at the reception was extremely kind and helped us organize transportation and gave us advice on how to navigate the city.
What could be improved: I have no special comments, connecting to wifi with 24 extension is perhaps a bit complicated and unnecessary
If you're sightseeing the city for a couple of days then I definitely recommend this hotel. A 20 minute walk from the Marienplatz, a 5 minute walk from the Lowenbraukeller and a 10 minute walk from the Munich nightlife. Definitely worth the money
What could be improved: Since the road outside is a tramline, expect to be waken up a couple of times in the night if you're staying on the front of the hotel. Not ideal
Close to the city
Walking distance from the local transport and also great walking into the city.
Great breakfast
The location is great and the staff are friendly. Very fast check-in and the check-out time is so good.
The room was good and clean.
Breakfast was Euro 17.50 and had a variety of options.
Single room was quiet, but no kettle and cups to make some tea.
Location was perfect as it was near museums, theatres and main station.
brilliant location, clean and welcoming ..
What could be improved: no kettle, Coffee and tea. the screen was not smart to enjoy YouTube for instance. but that is not a big deal
Comfy beds ,near to the station good staff
What could be improved: Needed hot water facilities for tea coffee .
