Overview
First Impressions
Walking into House of Records, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical three-star hotel. The name itself hints at something different — and honestly, it delivers on that promise. Located in Munich’s Feldmoching-Hasenbergl district, this place has carved out quite a reputation among travelers who appreciate character over cookie-cutter accommodations. The 8.8 rating speaks volumes, but what really caught my attention was how many guests return here repeatedly — that’s always a telling sign.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about the Waldmeisterstrasse location — it’s genuinely residential Munich, not some touristy bubble. You’re in a real neighborhood where locals actually live, which means authentic bakeries around the corner and that genuine German atmosphere you can’t manufacture. Couples seem particularly drawn to this area (they rate it 8.4), and I get why. It’s quiet enough for romantic strolls but well-connected when you want to dive into Munich’s city center. The private parking is honestly a godsend — anyone who’s tried to park in Munich knows what a relief that is.
The Rooms & Comfort
The accommodations strike that sweet spot between comfort and character that’s surprisingly hard to find. You know what impressed me most? The attention to small details that make a difference after a long day of sightseeing. The rooms feel thoughtfully designed rather than just furnished, and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. It’s comfortable without being flashy — which, honestly, is exactly what I want when I’m exploring a city like Munich.
Breakfast & Daily Rhythms
The continental buffet breakfast actually sets you up properly for the day ahead. I mean, it’s not going to win awards, but it covers all the bases with that reliable German efficiency you’d expect. What I appreciated was the relaxed morning atmosphere — no rushing, no crowds fighting over the coffee machine. You can actually sit, plan your day, and ease into Munich at your own pace. The buffet setup means you’ll find something that works, whether you’re the pastry-and-coffee type or need something more substantial.
Why Guests Love It
The repeat guest phenomenon here tells the real story — people discover House of Records and keep coming back because it delivers exactly what it promises. It’s that rare find where the high rating (8.8) actually reflects the day-to-day experience rather than just good marketing. The combination of genuine neighborhood location, reliable comfort, and personal touches creates something that feels more like a well-kept local secret than a standard hotel stay. For travelers who want to experience Munich from a real residential base rather than a sterile hotel district, this three-star gem offers exactly that authentic connection to the city.

The owners were very nice and welcoming
We had a very good and comfortable stay at House of Records. We stayed in a room with two bunk beds and we found it clean and functional. It is located in a quiet street in the outskirts of the city with a private parking. We felt very welcome and particularly valued the friendliness and sense of hospitality of the managers.
My best friend and I travelled with our 8yo kids, and my friend was very trepidatious about the fact that I booked a hostel. I’d read reviews and felt confident in my choice, but from the perspective of someone who walked in with a lot of anxiety: The property and the staff completely exceeded every expectation she had. They were incredibly kind and helpful to us, to our kids, and ensured that we had everything we needed during our stay. The beds were more comfortable than the 4-5* hotels I’ve stayed in recently in both Deutschland and the USA.
What could be improved: Too hot
