Overview
You know what? Hotel Stachus is one of those places that grows on you. I’ll be honest – when I first walked up, I wasn’t blown away by the exterior, but there’s something really solid and unpretentious about this 3-star spot that I actually ended up loving. It sits right in the heart of Munich’s action, and I mean right in it – you’re basically steps from Marienplatz and that whole tourist circus, but somehow the hotel itself feels like a quiet refuge from all the madness.
The thing about staying here is that you’re getting genuine Munich accessibility without paying those insane city center prices. I could literally walk to the Viktualienmarkt in five minutes for morning coffee (and trust me, you want to do this instead of paying hotel café prices), and the pedestrian zones are right there when you want to wander around. The rooms aren’t Instagram-worthy or anything, but they’re clean and comfortable – I actually slept really well, which honestly doesn’t always happen in city hotels. The walls are thick enough that I barely heard street noise, even though we’re talking about a pretty busy area. My room had this old-school European hotel vibe, you know? Dark wood furniture, simple but sturdy, and a bathroom that was small but functional. The shower had proper water pressure, which – let’s be real – is sometimes a gamble in older European hotels.
What really won me over was the staff. They actually knew the neighborhood and gave me recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. One guy at the front desk told me about this little brewery tucked away on a side street that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my favorite meals in Munich. Check-in was smooth, no weird complications or surprise fees, and they stored my luggage without any fuss when I arrived early. The 7.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it’s genuinely good at what it does. I mean, you’re not getting a spa or fancy restaurant, but you’re getting a clean, well-located place to sleep with people who actually care about your experience. For exploring Munich on foot, which is honestly the best way to see the city anyway, you really can’t beat the location. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was doing one of those long weekend trips where you’re barely in the room except to crash at night.
