Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Opera on St. Anna-Strasse, you immediately get that “I made the right choice” feeling. The building sits perfectly in Munich’s Altstadt-Lehel district — honestly, you couldn’t ask for a better spot in the old town. It’s one of those four-star places that doesn’t try too hard to impress you with flashy lobbies, but everything just feels right from the moment you step inside. The staff actually seems happy to see you, which isn’t always a given in Munich’s busier hotels.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about this location — couples absolutely love it here, and I can see why. You’re literally in the heart of everything that makes Munich special, but tucked away on a quieter street that locals know well. The Residenz is practically around the corner, and you can walk to Marienplatz in about five minutes without fighting through the main tourist crowds. What I really appreciate is how you can slip out for an evening stroll along the Isar or grab a proper Bavarian dinner without having to plan your whole route around tour groups.
The Rooms
The rooms at Hotel Opera strike that perfect balance between traditional Bavarian charm and modern comfort. You know what I mean — they’ve kept the character without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are well-designed without being unnecessarily fancy. The windows actually open properly, which is great for those crisp Munich mornings when you want fresh air instead of recycled hotel atmosphere.
Dining Experience
I have to say, the food here really surprised me in the best way. It’s not just hotel food — the meals are actually something to look forward to. The breakfast spread gives you proper German options alongside international choices, and dinner feels like eating at a neighborhood restaurant that happens to be incredibly good. You get the sense that someone in the kitchen actually cares about what they’re serving, which makes such a difference when you’re staying somewhere for more than just a night or two.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to this place is how it manages to feel both central and peaceful at the same time. You’re steps away from Munich’s best sights, restaurants, and that famous beer culture, but you can actually get a good night’s sleep. The staff knows the neighborhood well enough to give you real recommendations — not just the obvious tourist spots. It’s the kind of hotel where you feel like you’re staying in Munich rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about wandering back here after exploring the city, knowing you’ve got a comfortable base in one of Europe’s most charming old towns.

Guest Reviews
Hotel Opera is your perfect Munich hideaway when traveling. Beautifully appointed. Perfectly located. Tucked away in the Lehel neighborhood, Hotel Opera is a secret meant to be shared. No chaotic breakfast buffets, but a white-table cloth fruhstuck. Comfortable rooms. Lots of hot water. Sound-sleeping beds. And superbly attentive, knowledgeable staff.
Almost everything except for Parking
What could be improved: Parking
The area. The staff. Breakfast. The public area and the court. The area as far as I concern is prime location, good restaurants and coffee shops, no cars area, daily open market at the church Square.
What could be improved: We stayed at the junior suite. 650 Euro per night. For the price we paid, I expected-
1. A coffee machine
2. At least a kettle
3.Tv was broken. As it happened on Friday, had to Waite until Monday for a new one.
4.cover of the extra bed was torn.
5.huge walking in dressing room. Tiny bathroom
6.bath tub instead of shower. If you provide a bath tub please use glass sheet instead of an old style plastic curtain if you provide a bath tub please provide
a safety grip handle. It is a must.
7. Learnt that no bathroom photos at the hotel site -
means problems
Professional, quality, feeling welcome
Nice flowers!
Breakfast very good
If coming back to Munich, you will be my choice
Hotel with excellent location and cleanliness. Staff polite and helpful.
We arrived with a late flight and were accommodated immediately.
What could be improved: We paid an additional amount for breakfast, which no one initially warned us about.
Staff kind and helpful. Facilitated an early check in when I explained my son had been travel sick on plane.
What could be improved: Shower over bath which didn’t work properly. Would expect proper shower in 4 star hotel
The old world glamour and charm. The staff were wonderful and the breakfasts divine.
Beautiful building, good location about ten mins walk from Marienplatz, mostly very clean (so many mirrors!), comfortable bed and pillows, staff very helpful, shining star of this accommodation was the breakfast which was just beautiful and amazing service.
What could be improved: No proper curtain just a heavy net, ok for winter but would be a problem in the summer, no tea and coffee facilities in room, bath v tiny and shower just a shower head not attached to wall. Would have expected these things to be better for this price.
Breakfast and dining room staff were excellent.
What could be improved: Room 47 was very small and uncomfortable. The room included a winter garden which was way too cold to use. No proper cupboards for 6 nights.
Price was too high for such a room.
What could be improved: Antiquated plumbing in bathroom!
