Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel Isartor? The name actually means something here – it’s literally named after one of Munich’s historic city gates, and honestly, that tells you everything about where you’ll be staying. I mean, you’re right in the thick of things without being stuck in some tourist trap zone. The hotel sits in this sweet spot where you can walk to the old town stuff but you’re not dealing with the Marienplatz crowds stumbling past your window at 2 AM (trust me on this one – I’ve made that mistake before).
The place has this unpretentious vibe that I actually love about three-star hotels in Germany. It’s not trying to be something it isn’t, you know? The rooms are clean and functional – think solid German engineering applied to hospitality. The beds are proper firm (none of that squishy American hotel bed nonsense), and the windows actually open, which is surprisingly rare these days. I stayed there during Oktoberfest season once, and while you’ll pay more during that chaos, the staff didn’t act like they were doing you a favor just by existing, which… well, if you’ve been to Munich during festival time, you’ll appreciate that. The breakfast spread is typically German – really good bread, local cheeses, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a packet. Nothing fancy, but it hits the spot.
What I really appreciate is how the hotel sits near enough to the Isar River that you can actually take morning jogs along the water if that’s your thing. The Deutsches Museum is basically around the corner too, though most people don’t realize you can easily walk there from this part of town. Parking can be a bit of a headache – this is central Munich, after all – but there’s a garage nearby, and honestly, you probably don’t need a car anyway. The S-Bahn connections are solid from here. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the WiFi can be spotty on higher floors (just being real with you), but for the price point and that 8.2 rating, Hotel Isartor delivers exactly what it promises. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, start your day properly, and spend your money on experiences instead of inflated room rates. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially in a city where every euro counts.
Early hotels booking in Munich requires advance planning during peak festival seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s renowned beer culture and Alpine atmosphere.

Stefan from Switzerland – 27 April 2025 (8/10)
It‘s a great location and the rooms are clean and reasonably good for just staying over night. So basically a good place to sleep.
What could be improved: Rooms and especially the bathroom is very small and a bit old (but still clean).
The pillows weren’t goodDonald from United Kingdom – 31 March 2025 (8/10)
Staff were very friendly even when one of my friends were sick. Room was exactly what we needed only negative was the shower head faced nearer the wall than the shower tub.
Fciuca from Romania – 16 February 2025 (9/10)
The hotel is very well placed near the Marienplatz in a quiet zone.
A lot of different style of restaurants are around.
Isarparkhaus is nearby and paying at the hotel (15,5€/day) gives you acces all day round with a ticket which you can have from the gas station (parking and gas station are managed by the same business).
What could be improved: The bathroom is so tiny.
A small fridge will be nice.Nonita from United States – 20 January 2025 (9/10)

The location was good for the price. The beds were individual, so it was nice for a family, but they split us on separate floors. The place was clean.

Lovely rooms and found the beds very comfortable. Breakfast was nice and they offer a selection of coffees. Great location to the old town and train station.
