Look, I’ll be straight with you about Hotel Amba – it’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, and honestly, that’s kind of refreshing. When I first walked into the lobby, my expectations were pretty measured for a 3-star spot, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the place that caught me off guard. The staff actually seems to care, you know? Not in that overly scripted hotel way, but more like they’re just decent people doing their jobs well. The woman at check-in remembered I’d mentioned I was traveling for work and asked how my meetings went the next morning – small thing, but it stuck with me.

The rooms are, well, exactly what you’d expect but done right. Nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s properly clean. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this stuff after too many nights on hotel mattresses that feel like concrete), and the shower has decent pressure, which is more than I can say for some places that charge twice as much. What I really appreciated was the quiet – the windows must be decent quality because even though there’s some street activity nearby, I slept fine. The Wi-Fi is solid too, which matters when you’re trying to get work done or just want to stream something without buffering every five minutes.

Here’s what really sold me on the place though – it just feels honest. The 7.3 rating makes perfect sense because they’re not promising you luxury, they’re promising you a good stay without the fuss, and they deliver on that. I mean, you’re not getting a spa or room service or anything like that, but the breakfast is better than it needs to be (proper coffee, not that watery stuff), and there’s this little seating area near the front where I actually enjoyed reading for a bit in the evenings. The housekeeping team clearly takes pride in their work – I left my room pretty messy one morning rushing to a meeting, and when I came back everything was spotless and they’d even folded my clothes that I’d just thrown on a chair. It’s those little touches that make you feel like you’re staying somewhere people actually give a damn, rather than just another chain property where you’re a room number. If you’re looking for something reliable without paying premium prices for amenities you probably won’t use anyway, Hotel Amba hits that sweet spot. Just don’t expect Instagram-worthy marble bathrooms or anything – this is about solid hospitality, not flashy extras.

Tags/identification is not provided jf you leave your bags at reception (thus giving little confidence to someone coming to take your bags). Staff are not particular attentive.

  The location was fantastic. And the staff, and the attitude of the staff was also wonderful. Very helpful and welcoming.
  Hotel was quiet despite being in a busy location.
  The hotel does not have air-conditioning in the rooms, however, the fan provided was incredibly efficient and appreciated.
  Bathroom is good, nice and private for when you are not travelling with a partner. I am not sure what it is about bathrooms in hotels in Europe, but sometimes it is like they want you to be on display in a shop window to the rest of your travelling companions 😂
  
  What could be improved: Not quite sure about the lift. Seems like you could do with a little bit of an upgrade but overall nothing in particular was bad about this property.

  Excellent location next to the station and only a 20 minute walk into the central Marienplatz. The staff were polite and friendly. The room was clean and well laid out.
