Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Amba on Arnulfstraße, you’ll notice it’s one of those solid three-star places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The building has that classic Munich architecture — nothing flashy, but it fits right into the Maxvorstadt neighborhood. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Munich here, and honestly, that location score of 9.0 makes total sense once you start exploring the area. The hotel sits in a prime position for accessing the city’s main attractions and cultural landmarks.
The Neighborhood
Maxvorstadt is actually one of my favorite parts of Munich — it’s got this perfect mix of university energy and cultural spots without being touristy. You’re walking distance from the main train station (super handy when you’re dragging luggage), but you’re also close to the museum quarter and some really good local spots. Couples seem to get this — they rate the location 8.8, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about wandering these streets in the evening, plus you can easily walk to dinner without dealing with public transport. The neighborhood offers genuine local character and authentic dining experiences.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional — think modern German efficiency rather than boutique charm. The beds are comfortable enough, and you know what, sometimes that’s exactly what you need after a long day of sightseeing. The windows actually open (which isn’t always a given), and if you’re facing the right direction, you get a decent view of the neighborhood. It’s not going to wow you, but it won’t disappoint either. Each room is thoughtfully designed with practical amenities for both business and leisure travelers.
Breakfast and Practical Stuff
The breakfast setup is pretty solid — they do both continental and buffet style, so whether you want just coffee and pastries or the full German breakfast experience, you’re covered. I actually appreciated having options since some mornings you just want to grab something quick and go. The parking situation is a real plus here — having private parking in central Munich is honestly quite valuable, even at a three-star place. If you’re driving in, you’ll definitely appreciate not having to hunt for street parking. The hotel staff handles logistics efficiently and courteously.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Hotel Amba isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in town, and that’s exactly why it works. You’re paying for an excellent location and reliable service without the premium that comes with high-end hotels. The 7.3 rating reflects what you’d expect — it’s good, solid, and gets the job done well. For couples especially, being able to walk everywhere while having a comfortable base to return to seems to hit the sweet spot. It’s the kind of place where you spend your days exploring Munich and your evenings planning the next day’s adventures, which is really what a good city hotel should be about. The value proposition here is genuinely compelling for budget-conscious travelers.
The concierge service in Munich can arrange exclusive castle tours, secure reservations at traditional beer halls, and organize day trips to Neuschwanstein Castle and the Bavarian Alps.

Guest Reviews
1- Location: Hotel Is just in front of Right exit of HBF
2- Rooms (including the bathroom) was super clean.
3- Everything was in properly organised.
What could be improved: Nothing that I didn't like. If they could have provided a kettle in the room, that would have been better.
Really nice hotel just next to the main train station. The location was perfect and the rooms really clean
What could be improved: The hotel is a little bit old
the mattress
What could be improved: the room is very small
Great location just opposite the central train station. Good value for money.
What could be improved: Room was small - though perhaps this is standard given the pricing. Furnishings/decor are quite dated. Tags/identification is not provided jf you leave your bags at reception (thus giving little confidence to someone coming to take your bags). Staff are not particular attentive.
Easy check in and out
What could be improved: Very noisy, especially when the cleaners started in the morning, they woke me up
Parking space secured
Room was clean
Location is good and close to city center
What could be improved: No option for early check in
Located close to the train station, good breakfast buffet
What could be improved: Pricey
The location was fantastic. And the staff, and the attitude of the staff was also wonderful. Very helpful and welcoming.
Hotel was quiet despite being in a busy location.
The hotel does not have air-conditioning in the rooms, however, the fan provided was incredibly efficient and appreciated.
Bathroom is good, nice and private for when you are not travelling with a partner. I am not sure what it is about bathrooms in hotels in Europe, but sometimes it is like they want you to be on display in a shop window to the rest of your travelling companions 😂
What could be improved: Not quite sure about the lift. Seems like you could do with a little bit of an upgrade but overall nothing in particular was bad about this property.
Excellent location next to the station and only a 20 minute walk into the central Marienplatz. The staff were polite and friendly. The room was clean and well laid out.
What could be improved: Air conditioning would have been nice, but a fan was provided in the room.
Right next to the station
What could be improved: Can be noisy as you can hear the train station announcements but it’s close by and very clean and
