Hotel Description
So I stumbled across this Holiday Inn – the niu, Loco Munich North place during what was honestly a pretty frantic last-minute booking situation, and you know what? Sometimes these random finds turn out to be the best ones. The whole “niu” concept threw me off at first – I mean, what’s that about? – but it’s actually Holiday Inn’s younger, hipper cousin, and they’ve done something pretty clever here.
Walking into the lobby, you immediately get that this isn’t your standard corporate hotel vibe. There’s this playful, almost hostel-meets-boutique thing happening that works way better than it should. The design feels deliberately un-stuffy, which is refreshing after dealing with Munich’s more traditional (read: expensive) accommodations. Being up north means you’re not in the thick of tourist central, but honestly that’s part of the charm – you get a more authentic feel for how locals actually live. The U-Bahn connections are solid, so getting downtown for Oktoberfest madness or Christmas market wandering isn’t a hassle, but you can actually sleep at night without drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 3 AM.
The rooms are compact but smartly laid out – whoever designed these actually thought about how real people use hotel rooms. Good lighting for reading (thank you!), decent shower pressure, and the beds are surprisingly comfortable for a 3-star spot. I appreciated the little touches that show they’re not just going through the motions. The breakfast situation is pretty solid too, nothing fancy but they nail the basics and there’s usually something interesting thrown in that you wouldn’t expect. What really struck me was the staff – they seem to actually enjoy working there, which makes such a difference in how your stay feels. Check-in was smooth, they knew the neighborhood well enough to give actual recommendations (not just the touristy stuff), and when I had a minor issue with the room key, it got sorted without any drama.
The 8.5 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days. It’s not trying to be something it’s not – no marble lobbies or pretentious concierge services – but what it does do, it does really well. The value proposition is honestly pretty great for Munich, where hotel prices can make your eyes water. If you’re looking for a place that feels more like staying with design-savvy friends than checking into a corporate box, and you don’t mind being a bit outside the old town chaos, this spot delivers. Plus, being part of IHG means the WiFi actually works and you can earn points if you’re into that whole loyalty program thing.

Good location, especially for MUC visitors. Decent breakfast. Nice interior design, quite new hotel.
What could be improved: Soundproofing from outside – very audible outside ventilation agregats on the roof. Very loud conditioning/recuperation system. We have missed a tea-pot…Anthony from United Kingdom – 20 May 2025 (9/10)
The location was excellent along with the breakfast.

Staff was great and breakfast was really good e.g. ginger shots., Bed was cozy, room, lobby and all premises were clean. Location near the U6 subway and bus lane made it easy to commute around Münich.
What could be improved: Small things, the air conditioning was a bit loud, but ear plugs managed that. The shower holder was a bit loose.Nikol from Czech Republic – 16 April 2025 (8/10)
