From the outside, it looks like your standard three-star business hotel, but step inside and you’ll find something that feels much more polished than the price point suggests. The lobby has that fresh Holiday Inn Express vibe — clean lines, bright colors, and staff who actually seem happy to see you arrive.

Location & Getting Around

Berg am Laim isn’t exactly the tourist heart of Munich, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re about 15 minutes by U-Bahn from Marienplatz, which means you get easy access to the city center without paying those crazy downtown hotel prices. The Leuchtenbergring station is a short walk away, and I mean it when I say the public transport connections are solid — you can reach Oktoberfest grounds, the English Garden, or even the airport without much hassle. Plus, there’s parking right at the hotel, which is honestly a godsend if you’re driving in Munich.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from Holiday Inn Express — nothing fancy, but everything worked perfectly. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the shower had proper water pressure, which you can’t always count on in European hotels. What I appreciated most was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets near the bed, and blackout curtains that actually block out light. The air conditioning worked well too, which was crucial during my summer visit.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast buffet here is where this place really shines for a three-star property. They’ve got the usual continental spread, but also proper English breakfast items, and — this impressed me — decent vegetarian and vegan options that don’t feel like an afterthought. The coffee is actually drinkable (not always a given at chain hotels), and they keep everything well-stocked even during busy morning hours. There’s no full restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re in Munich — step outside and you’ll find plenty of local spots within walking distance.

  The breakfast was really good and also the food that they serve at the bar was also really good. The staff were polite and helpful and public transport right outside the hotels door.

  Rooms were clean but a bit small. Also sofa bed was hard but okay to sleep on. Breakfast was really good and plenty of choices. Location is just 5min from the nearest S-bahn station. Quiet area and no noices around the hotel. A good hotel to stay if willing to be a bit outside of the city centre.

  The location of the hotel is a little far from the city but it was very accessible to public transport. There is a bus stop just outside of the hotel that will bring you to Bahnhof or the train Station. It is also walkable about 5-10min walk from train station to the hotel. The room assigned to us was newly renovated and it was comfortable, sound proof i guess. The breakfast selection was also good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a complimentary coffee. The hotel was also near grocery so it was really convenient.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing really disturbing. There was no complementary water, or toiletries (shower cap, sanitary kit). There was no slippers provided or bathrobes. Other hotels offer these things or is already prepared in the room. Aside from that nothing really big.
