Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places around Munich, but this little rooftop gem on Cannabichstraße genuinely surprised me. When I first climbed up to the Dachgeschoss (that’s top floor for non-German speakers), I honestly wasn’t expecting much from Untergiesing – it’s not exactly the neighborhood tourists usually end up in. But you know what? That’s actually the best part about this place.

The apartment itself is properly cozy, and I mean that in the best way – not cramped, just intimate enough that you feel like you’re staying somewhere with character rather than some sterile hotel box. The rooftop aspect isn’t just marketing speak either; you actually get these nice glimpses over the neighborhood rooftops, especially pretty in the evening when people are coming home from work and you can see the warm lights clicking on in windows. The owner clearly knows what they’re doing – everything works, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and there’s proper blackout curtains (crucial if you’re jet-lagged). I did notice the stairs up can be a bit much if you’re hauling heavy luggage, but honestly, most Munich buildings are like that.

What I really love about staying here is how genuinely local it feels. Untergiesing isn’t touristy at all – you’re living alongside actual Müncheners going about their daily lives. There’s this excellent bakery just a few streets over where the staff definitely don’t speak English but make the most incredible Laugenstangen, and you’re close enough to walk to the Isar when the weather’s decent. The S-Bahn connections are actually pretty solid too; you can get to Marienplatz in about 15 minutes without dealing with the chaos of staying right in the Altstadt. Plus – and this is huge for Munich – parking isn’t a complete nightmare around here like it is in the center. The neighborhood gets properly quiet at night, which was perfect for me since I’m a light sleeper, but you’re not so far out that you feel disconnected from everything happening in the city. I mean, it’s Munich, so it’s not exactly cheap, but for what you get and where you are, it feels fair. The kind of place where you actually want to hang around in the evening instead of just crashing after walking around all day.

  The whole property was great, good quality everything. Great location for U-Bahn. Ralph friendly for check in and offered advice for how to get to the appt + recommendations for shopping/ eating/ cafes etc
