Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the 25hours Hotel The Royal Bavarian? It’s this perfect clash between old Munich grandeur and quirky modern design that somehow just works. I mean, the name sounds incredibly traditional, but when you walk in, you’re hit with this playful, almost theatrical vibe that’s distinctly 25hours – they’ve got this whole chain figured out when it comes to personality-driven hotels.
The thing is, this isn’t your typical Bavarian experience with lederhosen and beer hall vibes everywhere (though honestly, those places have their charm). Instead, they’ve taken that royal aesthetic and given it this contemporary twist that feels fresh without being gimmicky. The rooms are actually well thought out – I’m talking about proper lighting for reading, enough outlets where you need them, and these little design touches that make you want to take photos but aren’t so over-the-top that you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The beds are solid too, which matters more than people admit when they’re writing reviews.
What I really appreciate is how they’ve nailed that sweet spot between being design-forward and genuinely comfortable. You’ll find these unexpected details throughout – maybe it’s the way they’ve done the lighting in the hallways or how the common areas actually make you want to hang out instead of just rushing through. The 8.4 rating makes sense because while it’s not perfect (check-in can get a bit slow during busy periods, and like most city hotels, street-facing rooms catch some noise), it delivers on what it promises. The staff seems to actually know Munich well, which is rarer than you’d think – they can point you toward the good local spots without just handing you the same tourist pamphlet everyone gets. Honestly, that kind of local insight can make or break a trip, especially if you’re trying to get beyond the obvious attractions and find where the city actually lives and breathes.

Guest Reviews
The stay checked all the boxes. Location was good, close to places to eat, transportation, etc
What could be improved: Possibly Munich is more expensive than other cities. I travel a lot - pricing seemed a bit high in comparison.
The quirkiness, the site is great for onward travel eg Matienplatz Bmw etc. Security in the hotel is great only guests go beyond 1 in the lift. Free mini bar.
Style, design, creative approach, kitchen, excellent bar, location, good sense of humour :), friendly staff and amazing soap in the shower (like everywhere at 25h lol)
What could be improved: The gym is a bit small comparing to other 25h hotels, but it’s just a minor detail to be honest
The hotel is super nice, the location is excellent, close to the central station and in front of a tram station. It has a lively vibe, the restaurant is very good as is the bar. I got a medium room which was spacious and the shampoo, soaps were all very good. I arrived late, at 11pm to check in and the restaurant team was very nice in making me a dish to eat in the room. Another very positive point was that they allowed me a late check-out at 2pm.
What could be improved: The room was not clean, lots of dust everywhere, cobwebs on the window. It probably hadn't been vacuumed for a long time. Another negative point is that although the vibe was super positive, the reception team was efficient, but they didn't seem very happy with their work, not very friendly. The room was also very dark, I understand the issue of it being atmospheric, but you just couldn't see much.
Great hotel and location, free mini bar was a surprise. Loved the Restaurant
What could be improved: There was no conditioner, when i thought toiletries were included. Typewriters were out of ink, most of the time and had to ask a couple of times. Not dislikes just slight negatives
Unique rooms. Great showers, comfy bed.
What could be improved: Gym is only a tiny room with one (!) treadmill only.
Loved the decor.
Location and interesting venue
What could be improved: Cost of breakfast. We chose to go elsewhere.
The Royal Bavarian is an incredibly cosy and seriously stylish boutique hotel. The rooms come with every amenity you could think of – they even throw in a free (yep, free) minibar and a UE Boom Box if you fancy playing your own tunes. Brekkie was top-notch, as was the coffee – not heaps of vegan options, but nothing I’d knock them for. The bed was absolutely brilliant – slept like a log and woke up feeling super refreshed. Exactly how it should be!
What could be improved: I was a bit unlucky with the room I was given. It was huge but quite dark, with just a small window facing an attic space and absolutely no view. Since I was travelling for work, it wasn’t a big deal – but if I were there with my partner (who’s a bit particular about these things), I’d definitely try to get a different one.
I’ve also got a bit of a bed bug paranoia, so I always check the beds. No dramas – I didn’t find any, but there was quite a bit of hair (presumably from previous guests) between the topper and the mattress. I didn’t complain since it was just one night and I’m not overly fussy, but yeah… housekeeping could definitely pay a bit more attention to detail.
Cool interior, great restaurant, location right next to tube and train stations
What could be improved: No tea or coffee making facilities in the room.
