Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to 1st Creatif Hotel Elephant on Laemmerstrasse, you’ll immediately notice this isn’t your typical three-star hotel. The building has this quirky, artistic vibe that somehow feels both modern and welcoming — honestly, the elephant theme is done tastefully without being cheesy. I mean, you’re right in the heart of Maxvorstadt, which is probably one of Munich’s most underrated neighborhoods for visitors who want to experience the city like locals do. The distinctive architecture and creative design elements make this boutique property stand out among Munich’s accommodation options.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re literally surrounded by Munich’s cultural district. The Pinakothek museums are just a few minutes’ walk away, and you know what? You can actually stroll to the English Garden without dealing with tourist crowds from the city center. Maxvorstadt has this wonderful mix of university students, artists, and locals going about their daily lives. There’s a great little bakery around the corner that most tourists never find, and the U-Bahn connections are actually better than some of the fancier hotel areas. The neighborhood’s authentic character provides an immersive Munich experience.
The Room Experience
My room was compact but cleverly designed — they’ve really maximized the space without making it feel cramped. The elephant motifs are subtle touches rather than overwhelming decorations, which I appreciated. The bed was surprisingly comfortable for a three-star place, and the bathroom, while small, had everything you need including a decent shower with good water pressure. What struck me most was how quiet it was at night, despite being on a city street — the windows do their job well. Each accommodation features thoughtful amenities and modern conveniences that enhance the overall guest experience.
Practical Perks
The staff here genuinely seem to care about helping guests navigate Munich, not just checking you in and out. Parking can be tricky in this area (like most of Munich), but they’ll point you toward the best options nearby. Breakfast isn’t included, but honestly, with all the cafes and bakeries in Maxvorstadt, you’re better off exploring the neighborhood anyway. The front desk is helpful with restaurant recommendations too — they steered me toward some local spots I never would have found otherwise. Their local knowledge and personalized service truly set this property apart from larger chain hotels.
Why Guests Love It
This place works especially well for couples because Maxvorstadt has this romantic, bohemian atmosphere that’s hard to find in Munich’s more touristy areas. You’re close enough to walk to Marienplatz when you want the classic Munich experience, but you come home to a neighborhood that feels authentic. The hotel’s artistic character matches the area perfectly — it’s like staying in Munich’s creative quarter rather than just visiting it. For the price point, you’re getting solid comfort and an excellent location that most visitors completely overlook. The apartment-style layout and thoughtful design make it an ideal base for exploring this vibrant district, offering exceptional value for discerning travelers.

Guest Reviews
A very good location, we used as a base too and from the airport so it’s very handy for the train station. It had everything we needed really for a short stay. Easy to find and we arrived late so checked in with the hotel Amba. Room was spacious and comfortable
What could be improved: No issues
Very helpful and friendly staff
What could be improved: Looks like there is a slight but constant noise day and night from any machine (heating system?) in neighbourhood across the street
Close to everything
What could be improved: We had a negative experience with a staff member at check in which made the rest of our stay quite uncomfortable, the comment from the staff we felt belittled and it was slightly racist towards my group members. All from simply asking if we had access to a kettle in the room (which you don’t).
Big bedroom with comfortable bed.
Free tea and coffee in the lounge.
Good location (2-min walk from the main train station, 15-min walk from the city centre).
What could be improved: Room not very clean (hairs on the bed and in the sink, dust on the floor).
Old bathroom.
2 of the receptionists weren't really welcoming and it seemed like we were bothering them.
The hotel location was good, we can access city center and some important point easily. Also, the price is not expensive.
Very close to Bahnhof, coffee shops and restaurants. Clean simple room with large window that opened. Hot water in shower and free coffee and tea in lobby. Staff was very friendly.
What could be improved: A bit expensive for such a simple place; however it was Oktoberfest.
Location was great, very basic but clean.
What could be improved: Very limited services, expensive for what it was. It was during the euro championship having said that.
The location is perfect very near to Central train station and tram stop. The fan in the room was useful in the warm weather, and the beds were comfortable. Staff were friendly and made check in and check out extremely easy.
What could be improved: Window from bathroom to bedroom was quite unusual, and our shower couldn't tighten so always fell down the pole, had to hold it by hand the whole time. We didn't see any issues with hot water as reported in other complaints
good staff , nice room , clean room ,
What could be improved: -
We liked the location, the comfort and the quietness during the night.
What could be improved: The bathroom and especially the shower could be improved, also a fridge would be nice to have.
