The moment you walk in, you get why they went with the whole “artist’s flair” thing. There’s this eclectic mix of local artwork on the walls (actually good stuff, not hotel room prints), and the lobby has this lived-in creative energy that feels authentic rather than forced. The owner clearly has an eye for design – everything from the mismatched vintage furniture to the way they’ve displayed local pottery just works together somehow.

What really sold me on this place was how it manages to feel both cozy and spacious at the same time. My room had these high ceilings with exposed beams, and while the bathroom was compact (I mean, it’s a 3-star, so manage expectations), everything was thoughtfully laid out. The bed was surprisingly comfortable – sometimes these boutique places sacrifice comfort for style, but not here. I actually slept better than I have at some fancier hotels. The walls are thick enough that you’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway, which honestly can be hit or miss with these older converted buildings. There’s no air conditioning, but they provide these great fans, and the cross-ventilation actually works pretty well if you open the windows at night.

The staff here genuinely seem to care about what they’re doing – not in that over-the-top hospitality way, but more like they’re proud of the place and want you to discover what makes their neighborhood special. During check-in, the guy at the front desk spent ten minutes sketching out a little map of his favorite local spots, including this tiny bakery around the corner that I never would have found otherwise. That kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to avoid tourist traps. The breakfast isn’t elaborate – think fresh bread, local cheeses, good coffee – but it’s all quality stuff, and they serve it in this bright little conservatory that catches the morning light perfectly. I found myself lingering over coffee way longer than usual just because the atmosphere was so pleasant. Sure, you’re not getting a spa or a rooftop bar, but with a 9.2 rating, they’re clearly doing something right. It’s one of those places that gets the fundamentals spot-on and then adds just enough character to make you remember why you chose it over some generic chain hotel.
