You know what’s wild about this place? You’re literally staying in apartments that face Nymphenburg Palace – like, when I say face-to-face, I mean you open your curtains and there’s this massive Baroque palace staring back at you. The Vis-à-Vis Schloss Nymphenburg isn’t your typical hotel setup; it’s more like someone converted these historic buildings around the palace’s southern roundabout into proper apartments, and honestly, it works better than you’d expect.

I’ll be straight with you – it’s a 3-star place with a 7.8 rating, so don’t expect marble lobbies or concierge service. But what you get is something way more interesting: you’re staying in the Schloßrondell, which is basically this semicircle of buildings that were originally part of the whole palace complex. The apartments are on the “leicht-parterre” (that’s German for slightly raised ground floor), so you get those tall windows and decent ceiling heights without having to haul luggage up three flights of stairs. The Neuhausen-Nymphenburg area is actually one of Munich’s quieter neighborhoods – you’re far enough from the Altstadt chaos but still connected. What I love is that you can walk through the palace gardens in the morning before the tour groups show up, and there’s this whole network of canals and smaller palaces scattered around that most tourists never see.

The practical stuff? Well, parking around here can be tricky since you’re dealing with narrow historic streets, but the apartments usually sort that out for you. The area gets busy during summer when everyone’s hitting the palace and the botanical garden next door, but evenings are surprisingly peaceful – you’ll hear more birds than traffic. The S-Bahn connection from Laim station is about a 15-minute walk, which sounds annoying but actually takes you through some lovely residential streets with proper Munich architecture. And here’s something the booking sites won’t tell you: there’s a fantastic Italian place called Ratskeller just a few blocks away on Nymphenburger Straße, and the weekly market at Rotkreuzplatz (maybe 20 minutes on foot) is where actual Müncheners shop, not just tourists buying pretzels. The whole setup feels like you’re house-sitting for a friend who happens to live in a palace complex – which, when you think about it, is exactly what makes this place special.

  We were the first people to stay in this charming guest house, with Nymphenburg Castle on one side and a flower garden on the other. I thought the picture of the castle through the window was doctored, but it really looked like that! The bedroom was a nice size and the location was great, with two tram stops close by, a cafe and bakery just a few yards away, and a place to sit in the garden and enjoy breakfast. I loved running and walking through the grounds of the castle (and I hear that the botanical gardens are very nice). Constantin was very responsive when we needed anything.
  
  What could be improved: An old historic building has some limitations. There is a small shared kitchen/living room area but they were not able to put in a sink or stove, so you are limited to coffee, tea, or water (there is a large fridge is you want to store other things). But, with a cafe, bakery, and other eateries nearby (including a great kebob truck at the Romanplatz tram stop), the limited kitchen amenities were not a problem.

  Was für ein traumhafter Ort! Der wunderschöne Garten, die gemütliche Einrichtung und die Lage direkt gegenüber von Schloss Nymphenburg ist einzigartig schön und ideal um München zu erkunden. Der Gastgeber ist äußert freundlich und zuvorkommend, er ist auf all meine Wünsche und Fragen eingegangen. Heute Morgen wurde mir auch ein sehr guter Cappucino angeboten 🙂 Ich komme sehr gerne wieder!
