Overview
Look, I’ll be straight with you about this place – if you want to be right in the heart of Munich’s action, this top floor apartment practically puts you on Marienplatz’s doorstep. I mean, we’re talking maybe a two-minute walk to the Glockenspiel, which is pretty incredible when you think about it, but also means you’re going to hear those bells every single day at 11am (and again at noon and 5pm if you’re there during tourist season).
The apartment itself is honestly what you’d expect from a 3-star setup – nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. What really sells it is that top floor location, though you’ll definitely feel it in your calves after a long day of walking around the Altstadt and then climbing up there. The views are actually pretty decent if you crane your neck toward the square, and there’s something satisfying about being above all the tourist crowds milling around down there. You know what’s great? You can literally roll out of bed and grab a coffee at one of the cafés on Marienplatz before the day-trippers even figure out which U-Bahn exit to take. The Rathaus-Glockenspiel viewing spot gets absolutely mobbed by 10:30am, but if you’re staying here, you can scope it out early and claim your territory.
Now, the 7.2 rating makes sense when you consider the trade-offs – yes, you’re paying for location over luxury, and honestly, the place shows its age a bit. Don’t expect hotel-level service or amenities, because this is more of a “here’s your key, figure it out” kind of situation. But here’s the thing that booking sites won’t tell you: being this close to Marienplatz means you’re also walking distance to Viktualienmarkt (grab lunch there, seriously), and you can easily hit Hofbräuhaus without dealing with the whole tourist trek from outer neighborhoods. Plus, if you’re planning to do any day trips – Neuschwanstein, Salzburg, whatever – you’re super close to the main train connections. The S-Bahn to the airport runs right through Marienplatz, which saved me a ton of stress on checkout day. Just keep in mind that weekends get pretty lively down there, especially during Oktoberfest season or Christmas market time, so pack earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. It’s one of those places where the location absolutely makes up for the basic accommodations – I mean, you’re basically living in Munich’s living room.
