Honestly, when I first walked into The Westin Grand Munich, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect — the name sounds a bit generic, you know? But there’s something about this place that grows on you once you settle in. It’s one of those hotels where the luxury feels lived-in rather than stuffy, if that makes sense. The lobby has this warm, understated elegance that doesn’t scream “look how fancy we are” but still makes you feel like you’ve stepped up in the world.

What really struck me was how the staff seemed to actually know Munich inside and out. I mean, sure, any concierge can point you toward Marienplatz, but the front desk guy gave me this whole spiel about which U-Bahn entrance to use to avoid the tourist crowds, and honestly? Game changer. The rooms themselves are spacious by European standards — and I’ve stayed in my share of shoebox hotels across Germany — with those signature Westin beds that somehow manage to be both firm and cloud-like. The bathrooms are particularly well done, with rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case). One small thing that bugged me: the air conditioning can be a bit temperamental, though to be fair, that’s pretty common in Munich hotels since they’re not always built with intense summer heat in mind.

Location-wise, you’re really well positioned here. It’s not right in the thick of the Altstadt chaos, which I actually appreciated after spending days dodging tour groups around the Viktualienmarkt. You can walk to most of the main sights without breaking a sweat, but you’re also close enough to some of the more local neighborhoods where actual Müncheners hang out. The breakfast spread is solid — proper German breads, good coffee, and they don’t skimp on the meat and cheese selection like some places do. Service throughout was consistently friendly without being overly fussy, though I did notice things slowed down a bit during Oktoberfest season (but honestly, what doesn’t in this city?). For a 5-star property, the 7.7 rating feels about right — it’s genuinely comfortable and well-run, just not the kind of place that’s going to blow your mind or become the highlight of your trip. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want though, especially if you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the city rather than lounging around the hotel.

  The room was big and the bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed that there were three restaurants at the location, but the best part was the pool/spa area.
  
  What could be improved: Location was a bit far from downtown Munich (20 minute taxi each way). Not a lot of options outside of the hotel.

  The Westin Grand Munich offered a perfect blend of comfort, great service, and an ideal location. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-equipped, making it a relaxing place to come back to after exploring the city.
  
  What could be improved: The rooms were a bit outdated, but overall, the stay was great. I’ll definitely try a different room category next time to see if it offers a more modern experience.

  Beautiful hotel, very comfortable beds, staff great, especially Julia in the breakfast room.
  
  What could be improved: Sink blocked in bathroom, only one coffee sachet, only 2 milk powders, not enough and would prefer proper milk and more choice of coffees, plus tea bags were tatty- looked like they’d been there for a long time.
