First Impressions

When I first pulled up to The Stay.residence on Lochhamer Straße, I’ll be honest — it doesn’t scream “hotel” from the outside. This three-star property has more of a modern residential feel, which actually makes perfect sense once you step inside. The building sits quietly in Martinsried, and there’s something refreshing about how understated it all feels. You know what really caught my attention though? The fact that they have their own parking right on site — and trust me, if you’ve ever tried to find a spot in Munich, you’ll appreciate this more than you might expect.

Location & Neighborhood

Martinsried might not be the first area that comes to mind when you think of Munich, but honestly, that’s part of its charm. You’re close enough to the city center without dealing with all the tourist crowds, and the S-Bahn connections are actually pretty solid. I noticed a lot of couples seem to really love this spot — apparently they rate the location 8.2 out of 10, which makes sense when you consider you get that suburban quiet but can still reach the main attractions. The area has this nice mix of local cafes and green spaces that feel authentically German rather than touristy.

The Accommodation Experience

The room setup here is where things get interesting — it’s more like staying in a well-appointed apartment than a traditional hotel. Each unit has its own kitchen, which I found incredibly useful for breakfast or just keeping some snacks around. The design is clean and minimalist, very much in that modern German style where everything has its place. What struck me most was how quiet everything was; the soundproofing is surprisingly good for a three-star place, and you really do feel like you’re in your own little space rather than just another hotel room.

Dining & Amenities

Since each unit comes with kitchen facilities, there isn’t a traditional restaurant on site — but that’s actually part of the appeal. You can cook your own meals or explore the local dining scene without feeling tied to hotel meal plans. The building has a small spa area that’s nothing fancy but does the job if you want to unwind after a day of sightseeing. I mean, it’s not going to win any awards, but sometimes you just want a quiet place to relax without all the bells and whistles.

Here’s what really sets this place apart — the repeat guest factor is genuinely impressive. People keep coming back, and after staying here myself, I can see why. It’s that combination of having your own space, reliable parking, and a location that feels like real Munich rather than tourist Munich. The staff seems to recognize returning guests, which creates this nice sense of familiarity. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having a proper base where you can spread out a bit and not feel like you’re living out of a suitcase. It’s not flashy, but it’s genuinely comfortable in a way that makes you want to return.

  The hotel is perfectly located for a wirk visit at the Martinsried campus of LMU. The room was spotless clean, the shower had good water pressure and the bed was comfortable. Price was fair.
  
  What could be improved: * the WiFi didn't work for me (couldn't connect either my phone or laptop).
  * No breakfast (but there is a close by bakery with excellent coffee, pastries and other deli-syle food items)

  Outstanding everything as always. I used to do 1-2week shifts in Munich and I always stayed here years ago. Came back again for a week conference and stayed this time with a baby and it was equally outstanding. They continue to have the same high standards of cleanliness, customer service, facilities, garage (now with an electric charger) and also provided a huge baby bed for my daughter. There is an elevator for every floor even garage, super easy to unload car and navigate with suitcases, buggy etc. The little kitchen and fridge is perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed staying here again.
