Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “Souterrain” I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this little underground gem in Solln completely surprised me. It’s one of those places that doesn’t look like much from the outside, but you know what? Sometimes those are exactly the spots that end up being your favorite discoveries.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you think about it. Solln isn’t touristy at all – it’s where real Munich residents live, with proper bakeries and neighborhood pubs that close on Sundays. You’re about 20 minutes from both Oktoberfest and the city center (and honestly, during festival season, that distance is a blessing when you want to escape the chaos). The S-Bahn connection is solid, though I’d recommend getting familiar with the schedule since it’s not as frequent as the lines closer to Marienplatz. There’s this great little Wirtschaft called Gasthaus Solln just around the corner where locals actually hang out – not a tourist in sight.

What really struck me about this place is how quiet it gets at night. Being underground sounds weird, I know, but it means you don’t hear traffic or people stumbling back from the beer gardens at 2 AM. The rooms have this cozy, almost cave-like feel that’s surprisingly comfortable – sort of like a grown-up pillow fort. The 8.6 rating makes total sense once you settle in; it’s not fancy, but everything works properly and the owners clearly give a damn. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that corporate hotel rigamarole where they try to upsell you seventeen different packages.

The morning routine here is lovely, actually. You can walk to the local market on Saturdays (it’s tiny but they have incredible pretzels), or just grab coffee from the machine and plan your day without fighting crowds. During Oktoberfest, this becomes your secret refuge – close enough that you can pop back if the lederhosen get uncomfortable, far enough that you can actually sleep. I mean, staying right in the festival area sounds fun until you realize you’re paying three times as much to listen to drunk Australians singing at 4 AM. The neighborhood also connects you to some hiking trails if you’re into that sort of thing – the Isar river paths are genuinely beautiful and hardly anyone knows about them.

This isn’t the place for Instagram photos or bragging rights, but if you want authentic Munich without the tourist markup, Souterrain Solln delivers. It’s perfect for people who actually want to experience the city rather than just photograph it.

  The location a bit confusing for an asian tourist like us, specially we arrived late and quite dark to find, luckily the guy owner approach and guided us how to enter the place. The room is quite cozy and affordable.

  Super easy check in with a door code that was sent in advance. Better than any hotel. Very modern accommodation with all the comforts. Kitchen and washing machine even with dryer and dishwasher, smart TV, fast internet. Everything you need.

  Bei Buchung bekam ich die Zugangsdaten und Beschreibung auf das Handy geschickt. Somit konnte ich Vorort sofort in das Apartment gelangen. Ist klein aber mit wirklich allem was man braucht. Waschmaschine, Trockner, Geschirrspüler und voll ausgestatten Küche. Das Bett ist sehr komfortabel und die Umgebung ist sehr ruhig. Ich komme gerne wieder.

  Nach einer detaillierten Anweisung durch eine separate e-mail des Gastgebers war es relativ einfach, den Hintereingang zu finden. Der Zugang zum Appartement war außen etwas herausfordernd. Das wurde aber mit einem perfekt eingerichteten und gewartetem Raum mehr als kompensiert. Gebührenfreier Parkplatz und Bustation in unmittelbarer Nähe auch ok.
  
  What could be improved: In Messe-Großzeiten ist halt München ein sehr teures Pflaster. Die BAUMA ist halt nach dem Oktoberfest das größte Event in München
