Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost? The moment you walk into the lobby, there’s this incredible sense of history mixed with serious luxury that actually works. This place used to be Munich’s main post office back in the day, and honestly, they’ve done something pretty spectacular with the renovation. The soaring ceilings and original architectural details — I mean, you can still see elements of that grand postal building — but now it feels like stepping into sophisticated Parisian elegance right in the heart of Bavaria.
The rooms are where this hotel really shines, and I’m not just talking about thread counts and marble bathrooms (though those are definitely impressive). What I loved was how they’ve managed to blend French sophistication with subtle Bavarian touches without making it feel forced or theme-park-ish. The beds are ridiculously comfortable — that Sofitel signature bedding really lives up to the hype — and the soundproofing is excellent, which matters because you’re right in the city center. I stayed on a higher floor and the views over Munich’s rooftops were genuinely stunning, especially at sunset when the light hits all those traditional buildings. The bathrooms deserve a mention too; spacious with those deep soaking tubs and Hermès amenities that make you feel a bit spoiled.
Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned to explore Munich on foot. The Frauenkirche is literally a few minutes’ walk, and you can easily stroll to Marienplatz to catch the Glockenspiel (though honestly, go early in the morning to avoid the crowds). What I particularly appreciated was being close to both the touristy spots and some really good local restaurants that aren’t just serving schnitzel to visitors. The hotel staff — and this is where that 8.3 rating makes sense — are genuinely knowledgeable about the city. They pointed me toward a fantastic beer garden that wasn’t overrun with tour groups and gave solid advice about navigating Munich’s public transport system. Check-in was smooth, parking is available (which is actually a big deal in this part of the city), and the concierge service feels personal rather than scripted. It’s one of those places where the five-star rating doesn’t feel inflated — you’re paying for quality, location, and that particular brand of French hospitality that somehow feels right at home in Bavaria.

The room was very nice and clean, service was impeccable.
What could be improved: The location next to the Hauptbanhof is a bit weird for a luxury hotel, however the Block itself and the street from the hotel onwards is very nice. And the typical crowd that tends to hang around any main railway station in the world does not spill over to the hotel. So the location is more a feeling than an actual downside.Kemi from United States – 21 May 2025 (7/10)
I loved the Sauna it was amazing and it made up for the room.
What could be improved: The room was okay, but the facilities more than made up for the room.Halim from Turkey – 20 May 2025 (9/10)

Impressive building and the decor, while getting a bit old now, is still impressive. The swimming pool is the absolute highlight every time. The food is excellent.
What could be improved: The staff seem to be undertrained and overwhelmed. They are nice and well-meaning, but rather incompetent-not what one would expect.Miguel from Czech Republic – 3 March 2025 (9/10)
Very nicely renovated hotel with luxury feeling and nice staff. Location is central (close to everything) but is also it's major low point. Decoration is very nice being a very ample hotel. Price was very fair for this level of hotel.
What could be improved: The location near the central station means that it is central in terms of location with easy access everywhere but at night it feels not safe to leave the hotel on walking and during the day (like in all central stations in Germany) the environment is not great. Also a lot of reconstruction going around so this may be changed in upcoming years.
