Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Smart Stay Hotel Station on Schützenstraße, you immediately get why this three-star spot works so well for travelers. It’s one of those hotels that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — just solid, smart accommodations right where you need them in Munich. The building has that clean, modern look that tells you someone actually thought about making this place functional rather than flashy.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about staying in Ludwigsvorstadt — you’re basically in the sweet spot between Munich’s main train station and the old town. I mean, couples are rating this location 9.1 out of 10, and honestly, that makes total sense when you’re here. You can walk to Marienplatz in about 15 minutes, but you’re also close enough to the Hauptbahnhof that getting around Bavaria is ridiculously easy. The neighborhood has this nice mix of local cafes and practical shops, so you’re not stuck in some tourist bubble.
The Room Experience
The room design follows that “smart stay” philosophy — everything you need, nothing you don’t. The beds are actually comfortable (which isn’t always a given at this price point), and there’s decent storage space for your stuff. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to make relatively compact spaces feel functional rather than cramped. The bathrooms are modern and clean, with good water pressure — you know, the basics that matter when you’re exploring a city all day.
Breakfast and Daily Rhythms
The continental buffet breakfast is where this place really shows its practical side. It’s not going to win any awards, but there’s a solid selection that’ll fuel you for a day of sightseeing — fresh bread, decent coffee, and enough variety to keep most people happy. The breakfast area gets busy around 8 AM (especially with all those couples who seem to love this place), so if you’re an early riser, you’ll have more space to yourself.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Smart Stay Hotel Station isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in Munich, and that’s exactly why it works. You’re getting a clean, well-located base for exploring the city without paying for amenities you probably won’t use anyway. The staff seems to understand that most guests are here to see Munich, not hang out in the hotel lobby. With that location score of 9.1, you’re basically paying for one of the best positions in the city at a price that won’t destroy your travel budget — and sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
Hotels in Munich offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this Alpine metropolis, with easy access to castles, museums, and traditional German experiences.

Guest Reviews
Great location steps from main train station, trams and buses. Small rooms but clean with nice shower.
What could be improved: A little noisy with a room on the street.
Location
What could be improved: Horrible pillows
everything worked well
rooms are a little small
What could be improved: room size were small but well equiped
Very well located just next to train station and 10 mins to city center, Friendly and helpful staff
Perfect location, staff.
Perfect Location close the Central Station. Great Value for money. Bed and Shower perfect. Was exactly what I was looking for.
Very close to the town centre with restaurants nearby. Good bed and excellent shower with lots of hot water.
What could be improved: No tea/coffee facilities. No parking, nearby parking was 35euro/night.
The Smart Stay Hotel offers a highly convenient location in the city center, making it a great base for exploring Munich. The beds were comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep, and the cleanliness of the room met expectations. While there was some street noise, it was manageable and didn’t cause any major disturbance.
What could be improved: The one drawback was the thin walls, which made it easy to hear conversations from neighboring rooms. Despite this, it’s a solid choice for those prioritizing location and comfort at a reasonable price.
I did not have breakfast at the hotel but the location for visiting Munich was excellent, I could not have wished for better. The hotel is not a luxury hotel but for the cost I got everything I needed and the staff were courteous. It is located close to the rail links, day excursions and the Old Town, which is the reason I chose this hotel.
The man on reception, when I left was excellent, I wish I had asked his name, as the day before I had asked the young lady to organise a taxi for me to be there at 8 am. This was not done but the young man did not hesitate to organise one and he managed to get me a taxi within 10 minutes to take me to the airport, which I really appreciated.
What could be improved: I always take my mini travel kettle with me which is great as I can have a hot drink in my room in the mornings and the evenings.
good location. rooms clean
What could be improved: looks a bit dated from outside but can't be helped
