Serviced Apartment München-Messe/G

Munich, Germany
7.3 Very Good
Apartment 40,1st floor, Willy-Brandt-Allee 14,81829 , Trudering - Riem, 81829 Munich, Germany

Overview

Okay, so this serviced apartment is tucked away in the Trudering-Riem district – you know, the area that most tourists completely skip over, but honestly? That might be exactly why you’d want to stay here. It’s on Willy-Brandt-Allee, which sounds super official but it’s actually just a quiet residential street that feels refreshingly normal after dealing with Munich’s tourist crowds.

The apartment itself is on the first floor (European first floor, so one flight up), and I mean, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a solid 4-star serviced place. Nothing fancy, but everything works properly – which is more than I can say for some of the boutique places I’ve crashed at in Schwabing. The kitchen actually has decent knives and pans you can cook with, not those sad plastic things that barely cut butter. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Trudering-Riem isn’t exactly party central, so you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling down cobblestones at 3 AM like you would near Marienplatz.

Here’s the thing about this location – it’s genuinely close to the Messe (convention center), which is probably why you’re looking at it in the first place if you’re being honest. But what’s actually cool is that you’re also right by the old airport grounds, which they’ve turned into this massive park called Landschaftspark. Perfect for morning runs or just getting some air when you’re tired of being indoors. The S-Bahn connection is decent too – S2 line gets you into the city center in about 20 minutes, though you’ll want to check the schedule because it’s not as frequent as the lines closer to downtown. There’s a Rewe supermarket about a 10-minute walk away, plus some surprisingly good Vietnamese and Turkish places that locals actually eat at (always a good sign).

Look, the 7.3 rating probably reflects the fact that it’s not Instagram-pretty or dripping with Bavarian charm – it’s more functional than romantic. But sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially if you’re here for business or just want a proper base without paying city center prices. The WiFi actually works for video calls, there’s decent parking if you’re driving, and the whole building has that clean, efficient German vibe where everything just… works. Just don’t expect much help with restaurant recommendations from the front desk – they’re polite but clearly not hospitality lifers. Still, for what it is and where it is, it does the job well.

It feels like staying in a council estate, and there are no shops around. I wouldn't stay again.

Nice bathroom with a big shower that had the best water pressure I've experienced in my three months of travelling Europe, and I appreciated that there was shampoo and body wash.

What could be improved: To be completely honest, it didn't make me feel like I was on holiday in Europe, it felt like I was living on a council estate. It was depressing.

You're out in the suburbs, ages away from the city. You're looking at a half-hour by train from Munich Hauptbahnhof, and then a 600m walk through a largely concrete grey suburb. I had no idea when booking it was so far from anything, and there are no shops or supermarkets around. 600m away back by the railway station there is a complex with a few shops, maybe a cinema, but you have very limited options. I had to get some basic groceries delivered, and I didn't go out to explore Munich as much as I would've liked because it's so far away.

A washing machine is advertised, but you need to pay using the WeWash app. However, there's no cellular reception in the laundry (it's in the basement) let alone the wifi from your room reaching down there, so you will need to book your washing machine or dryer from at least ground level, and then go down to actually use it.

A cabinet door next to the fridge has a broken top hinge, so the door is poorly held in place by tape that has long since worn out. So, I had to hold the cabinet door up to open the fridge. It's hard to explain, but it is another annoying thing and could be fixed easily if the owner gave two shits.

The building is average. I got the sense that a lot of lower-income people or families live in the surrounding apartments. There is a guy next door who is very friendly, but he does talk to himself and sing on his balcony sometimes, which can be a little disconcerting. As soon as I arrived, I regretted booking this place.

What could be improved: There is no dry rack for clothes in the room. The washing machine is not in the room too. There is an additional fee to use the washing machine. It does not match the host´s description and did not match my expectation.
