Overview

You know what caught me off guard about the Scheck Hotel? The lobby actually feels like someone’s really well-appointed living room rather than that sterile corporate vibe you get at most four-star places. I mean, there are these deep leather chairs that you can actually sink into – not the kind that look good but feel like sitting on cardboard.

The whole place has this understated thing going on that I really appreciated. The rooms are honestly bigger than I expected, and here’s something I never thought I’d care about until I stayed here – the curtains actually block out light completely. Like, pitch black at 7 AM if you want it. The beds are that perfect firmness where you don’t feel like you’re sinking into quicksand but you’re not sleeping on a board either. What really sold me though was the shower pressure. I know it sounds silly, but after a long day you just want a shower that doesn’t feel like someone’s gently misting you with a spray bottle.

The staff seems to actually know what they’re doing without being weirdly hovery about it. Check-in was smooth – no standing around for twenty minutes while they hunt for your reservation or try to upsell you on room upgrades you don’t want. And honestly, the breakfast setup is solid. Not groundbreaking, but they’ve got good coffee (which is half the battle) and actual fresh fruit, not the sad pre-cut stuff that’s been sitting under heat lamps. The WiFi works properly throughout the building too, which shouldn’t be noteworthy in 2024 but somehow still is at a lot of hotels. I was able to take calls from my room without that choppy connection thing happening.

The location works well if you’re someone who prefers being slightly off the main tourist drag but still close enough to walk places. It’s quiet at night – I’m talking actually quiet, not “quiet except for the street cleaning trucks at 5 AM” quiet. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which is saying something. The neighborhood has that nice mix of local spots and places visitors actually want to go, so you’re not stuck eating hotel food or hunting down the nearest chain restaurant. There’s this little café about two blocks away that locals seem to frequent – always a good sign.

Look, it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, and that’s exactly why it works. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s the kind of place that gets the important stuff right without any unnecessary drama. You’ll sleep well, the amenities work like they’re supposed to, and you won’t feel like you’re getting nickel and dimed for basic things. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need from a hotel stay.

As usual great stay in good location, right at the English garden, awesome gym& sauna and grateful we lived on ground level as my luggage is heavy. Always coming back!!

What could be improved: Unfortunately there are so many smokers in Germany and they smoked right in front of our room/ terrace. I am highly allergic to it. The cigarette smoke would also blow up into the gym, one day which is not pleasant.

The gym and sauna added a great value to my stay. The food in the restaurant is very good in breakfast and dinner.

What could be improved: The room lacks of tea/coffee set. Also the heating is difficult to control. There is underfloor heating, but sometimes it is not enough in cold weather.
The air blower in the bathroom and toilete are noisy.
The rooms are located outside the gym and sauna building, but that is not a big issue, you just need to be well dressed in cold weather to go between the buildings.
