You know what caught me off guard about Rooftop Solln? The name actually delivers – there’s this fantastic rooftop space that honestly makes the whole stay worth it. I mean, when you’re booking a 3-star place, you’re not exactly expecting panoramic views, but here we are. The location in Solln is one of those local secrets that travelers are just starting to figure out – it’s this quiet residential neighborhood that feels authentically Munich without the tourist chaos.

Getting to Oktoberfest or the city center really does take about 20 minutes on the S-Bahn, and I’ll be straight with you, that’s actually perfect timing. Close enough that you’re not spending your entire day commuting, but far enough out that you can escape back to somewhere peaceful when the crowds get overwhelming. The walk to the S-Bahn station is pleasant too – tree-lined streets, local bakeries where you can grab proper German bread for breakfast, that sort of thing. Parking’s surprisingly manageable in this area, which anyone who’s dealt with Munich’s city center will appreciate.

The hotel itself has that comfortable, unfussy vibe of a well-run neighborhood place. Rooms are clean and thoughtfully laid out – nothing fancy, but everything works properly (the shower pressure is actually decent, which I always worry about in older European buildings). The 8.6 rating makes sense when you spend time here; it’s not trying to be something it isn’t, just doing the fundamentals really well. Staff genuinely knows the area – they pointed me toward this incredible family-run restaurant about five minutes away that I never would have found otherwise. Honestly, some of my best Munich meals happened in Solln, not in the tourist zones. The neighborhood gets properly quiet at night, which is golden if you’re planning to do serious Oktoberfest damage and need actual sleep to recover. But during the day, there’s this lovely local energy – people walking dogs, kids heading to school, the rhythm of real life happening around you. It sort of gives you this insider perspective on Munich that you just can’t get staying right in the Altstadt.

  The host was very nice and answered all of our questions. We accessed the apartment via garden with the pass code provided to us by the host. The apartment is big enough to accommodate four people. It is located in a quite neighborhood. The Munich city center is reachable by metro which is reachable by foot (about 18 minutes away from the apartment).
  
  What could be improved: Slightly narrow staircase which makes it a little difficult to get up to the apartment, not ideal for older people.

  What could be improved: As for the negative assessment, we were in the winter period, specifically the end of November and the beginning of December. It was very cold in the building. When the owner of the apartment complained that it was cold, they said that they would increase the heating, which of course they did not do enough. Since there was a lot of snow and low temperatures, the owner did not bother to clear the snow from the steep stairs leading to the apartment…

  What could be improved: The noise. The bed was comfortabel but with every little movement it made noises. Everywhere were light blinking and flashing, the neigbours and kid were noisy. The get up to the second floor you need to go on a small round staircase so no suitcases big or when you have walking problem then it is not excessible. The garden view was a view of a car. At night the lights in the garden were on, nice but so bright that you couldn’t see were to walk anymore. The appartment is small and low so long people might have a problem too

  There are washing machine, dryer and even dish washer provided. It is such a good stay for us.
  
  What could be improved: It is quite hard to climb up to the house as the stairs are too steep which cause us to fall down sometimes.

  What could be improved: the heating did not work at all, we increased the heating, the landlady protected the thermostat with a padlock and accused us of breaking the thermostat, which is not true at all. we couldnt take a shower from the cold. Also, the water leaks under the sink, we had to mop the floor constantly. The landlady is asking for compensation for increasing the thermostat to warm the rooms at least a little, which is insane..
