Overview
First Impressions
The Residence Inn by Marriott Munich Ostbahnhof sits in the Berg am Laim district, and honestly, it’s one of those spots that surprises you. When I first walked into this four-star extended-stay hotel, I was struck by how they’ve managed to create something that feels more like a well-designed apartment building than your typical business hotel. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe without being sterile — you know what I mean? There’s actually warmth to the place, which isn’t always easy to pull off with contemporary design.
Location & Getting Around
Munich Berg am Laim might not be the first neighborhood that comes to mind when you think of the city, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re about a 15-minute train ride from Marienplatz, which means you get the best of both worlds — easy access to the city center without the tourist crowds right outside your door. The Ostbahnhof station is practically next door, and I mean that literally. You can catch trains to pretty much anywhere from there, including direct connections to the airport. What I really appreciated was how this area feels authentically German rather than touristy.
The Living Space
Here’s where this place really shines — each room is essentially a studio apartment with a proper kitchenette. I’m talking full-size refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, and all the dishes you’d need. The sleeping area doesn’t feel cramped either, which can be an issue with extended-stay properties. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, and they’ve got this clever setup where the living area feels separate from the bedroom even though it’s technically one space. The Wi-Fi was solid throughout my stay — important when you’re trying to get work done.
Breakfast & Amenities
The continental breakfast buffet is better than you’d expect from a Marriott property in this price range. They’ve got the usual suspects — pastries, cold cuts, yogurt — but also some local touches that show they’re paying attention. The coffee was actually good, which honestly surprised me. There’s parking available on-site, which is a huge plus if you’re driving in Munich (and let’s be real, finding parking in this city can be a nightmare). They also have a small fitness area and a business center, though nothing fancy.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it works for different types of travelers. I met couples who were using it as a base for exploring Bavaria, business travelers who appreciated the kitchen setup for longer stays, and even families who needed more space than a traditional hotel room offers. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work — they’re helpful without being pushy. With an 8.4 rating, it’s clear that most people leave happy, and I can see why. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does — comfortable, practical accommodation with personality — it does really well.

Guest Reviews
Great location, 5 minutes walk to the train station! Excellent breakfast. Nice, clean and quiet rooms.
Nice clean room with really good breakfast and super nice staff
What could be improved: Not much
Very new and clean.
What could be improved: The staff opened the door without knocking while I was in the room
Great for family.
It is an industrial and business location close to train station Munich East. The apartment was very nice, luxury and comfortable. There is also a convenient parking available, not so expensive for a hotel quest. Small shopping mall is around a corner.
What could be improved: The room wasn't ready at 15:00 PM which wasn't too good after a long trip. But this is a detail.
Clean and nice
Everything was perfect. I would highly recommend this facility to others.
What could be improved: no issues to report.
Great location, very clean!
The room was amazing, big and super clean!
What could be improved: The only thing I would say is that there wasn’t a changing station at the toilet in reception.
Breakfast was okay, it's as per usual but it's still yummy and fulfilling. Extra point for hot coffee and comfortable room, easy access from parking to the room as well (with card and security). And they have shops (like supermarket and DM) in the same building , which we love it and easy for us.
What could be improved: All good for me, nothing to complain
