You know what? The Platzl Hotel actually surprised me – and I don’t say that lightly after staying in dozens of Munich hotels over the years. When you first walk up, it’s got this classic Bavarian facade that honestly could go either way (some of these traditional-looking places are total tourist traps), but there’s something more substantial about this one. The lobby has that old-world elegance without feeling stuffy, and the staff… well, they actually seem to know the neighborhood instead of just rattling off rehearsed recommendations.

What really sold me was how they’ve managed to keep the historic charm while making everything work for modern travelers. The rooms are what I’d call “properly comfortable” – not Instagram-perfect, but you know you’ll sleep well and the shower pressure won’t disappoint you at 7 AM. I mean, the furniture has some real character to it, and the windows are thick enough that you won’t hear every late-night conversation from the street below. Speaking of which, you’re literally steps from some of Munich’s best beer halls (the locals will point you toward Hofbräuhaus, but honestly, there are better spots just around the corner that the concierge actually knows about). The location is kind of perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without paying Marienplatz prices for everything.

Here’s the thing that impressed me most – they seem to get the balance right between being helpful and leaving you alone. Check-in was smooth, no unnecessary upselling, and when I asked about getting around the city, the guy behind the desk pulled out an actual local map and marked spots with a pen. Old school, but it worked. The 8.7 rating makes sense because while it’s not going to blow your mind with fancy amenities, it delivers on the stuff that actually matters when you’re exploring a city all day. The breakfast is solid (proper German bread, not the weird international hotel stuff), and I appreciated that they keep coffee available in the lobby pretty much all day. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, but they’ll sort you out if you call ahead. It’s definitely earned its four stars – the kind of place where you’d stay again without hesitation, which honestly says more than any fancy marketing could.

  Super location, 5 mins from Marienplatz metro station. Close to plenty of restaurants and shops. Beautiful decor , small but very cosy room with super comfy bed. Would recommend
