Pension Belo Sono Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Pension Belo Sono on Gollierstraße, you’ll notice it’s not trying to be something it isn’t — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work. This three-star pension sits quietly in the Schwanthalerhöhe district, and while the building itself is pretty typical Munich residential architecture, there’s something genuinely welcoming about the whole setup. I mean, the name literally translates to “beautiful sleep,” which feels like a promise they actually keep.

The Schwanthalerhöhe Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from the tourist chaos to actually breathe. Schwanthalerhöhe is one of those neighborhoods that locals know but visitors often overlook, which works in your favor. The Theresienwiese (where Oktoberfest happens) is basically around the corner, and getting into Munich’s city center takes maybe 10 minutes on public transport. You know what’s really nice though? The couples who stay here consistently rate the location 8.9 out of 10, and I get why — there’s something romantic about having your own little corner of the city.

What You’re Actually Getting

The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable without any unnecessary frills — think quality basics done right. The pension keeps things simple but thoughtful, and you can tell they’ve figured out what travelers actually need versus what sounds good in a brochure. The beds are genuinely comfortable (remember, “belo sono” means beautiful sleep), and the windows open properly, which might sound minor but makes a huge difference on warm Munich nights. There’s no fancy spa or elaborate breakfast spread, but everything they do offer feels intentional.

Getting Around and Nearby Life

The public transport connections here are actually excellent — you’ve got the U-Bahn within easy walking distance, and honestly, that’s your ticket to everything Munich has to offer. What I really appreciated was how the neighborhood has this lived-in feel with local cafes and shops that aren’t trying to separate tourists from their money. There’s a decent Turkish restaurant just down the street that locals frequent, and finding parking if you’re driving is way less stressful than in the city center.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Pension Belo Sono isn’t going to wow you with marble lobbies or rooftop bars, but it delivers on the fundamentals in a way that feels authentic. The 8.1 overall rating tells the real story — guests consistently leave satisfied because their expectations were met and often exceeded in small, meaningful ways. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, wake up refreshed, and head out to explore Munich without feeling like you’ve blown your budget on accommodation. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially when the city itself is the real attraction.

Reviews of Pension Belo Sono

  • Joy from Australia – 13 February 2025 (7/10)

The property is in a good neighbourhood and close to a metro station.

What could be improved: Karlsplat and Munich central rail station is about 20 minute walk. There’s no lift in the building – the property might not be a good option for travellers with big suitcases.

  • Katherine from United States – 1 December 2024 (8/10)

Close but out of the fray

What could be improved: Bathroom is so tiny. The oiler is cm’s from the shower door. No ventilation.

  • Maria from Estonia – 15 November 2024 (9/10)

    Clean and nice room.

What could be improved: The walls/doors are thin and not very soundproof. Otherwise it was a very nice stay.

  • Bert from Belgium – 13 October 2024 (9/10)

    Excellent place to stay.

  • Maryam from Iran – 30 August 2024 (7/10)

The room was clean and nice.

What could be improved: I did not realize before booking that the building does not have an elevator and the room they give me is on the fourth floor.
I found out about this after payment and via email, but I couldn't cancel and had to go to the fourth floor with a 20 kg suitcase.
I thought there was a fridge and a kettle in the room, but it was shared between 4 rooms.

  • Lin from Taiwan – 27 August 2024 (9/10)

The rooms are clean and the kitchen is convenient to use.

What could be improved: I think the bed could be better, it is too soft.

  • Pram from United Kingdom – 10 August 2024 (9/10)

A clean apartment in a great location. Close to many restaurants, supermarkets and transports links. An ideal base for exploring Munich. The rooms were both of a good size and there was plenty of wardrobe space. The kitchen was on the smaller side but the balcony was great for sitting out in the morning and the evening. The area was very quiet and only 20 minutes walk to the main station.

What could be improved: Bathroom was small with slightly confusing instructions about when to open and close the windows, but not really a major problem. No other complaints.

  • Mustafa from Turkey – 26 July 2024 (9/10)

In the heart of the city. Close to metro, restaurants, etc.

What could be improved: It is a budget hotel. There was nothing unexpected.

  • Rita from Australia – 26 July 2024 (9/10)

We enjoyed our stay at this property. We had a nice two bedrooms apartment on the second floor. It was well presented and clean, it was also cleaned once during our three night stays. The bathroom/shower is on the small size, but did the job fine. The small kitchen was perfect to prepare our breakfasts and some light meals. We enjoyed the little balcony. The self check in instructions were clear, and the staff very responsive. The area is very nice, clean and feels safe. There are cafes and restaurants all around it and a good size supermarket is only 2 minutes walk from the property.

What could be improved: Definitely more positives than negatives. Only a small suggestion is to provide a bread toaster.

  • Rachel from United Kingdom – 11 June 2024 (8/10)

Location was excellent . Very comfortable beds. Clean apartment.

What could be improved: Small things. Needs a hook on bathroom door. Toaster would be useful for breakfast. Frying pan perhaps needs updating.
