When I first pulled up to Parkhotel Rothof, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much — it’s tucked away on a quiet residential street in Bogenhausen, and from the outside it looks almost understated. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes this place special. This four-star hotel has this wonderful sense of being a local secret, even though it’s clearly well-loved by guests who keep coming back (and trust me, there are a lot of repeat visitors here).

Bogenhausen is one of those Munich neighborhoods that locals adore but tourists often miss — it’s upscale without being flashy, residential but still connected. You’re about a 15-minute tram ride from the city center, which actually works in your favor because you get to experience Munich like someone who actually lives here. The area around Denningerstrasse is lined with cafes and small shops, and I mean, couples absolutely love it here — they consistently rate the location over 9 out of 10, which tells you something about the romantic appeal of this quieter side of the city.

The Room Experience

Let me tell you about the beds — they’re genuinely fantastic. I’m usually pretty picky about hotel mattresses, but I slept better here than I have in months. The room itself was clean and comfortable, nothing too fancy but everything you need. What I appreciated most was the attention to detail — good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets, and windows that actually open (which is rarer than you’d think in hotels these days). The whole setup just feels thoughtful, like someone who travels a lot designed these spaces.

Breakfast & Practical Matters

The breakfast buffet is solid — not the most elaborate spread I’ve seen, but the quality is there, and honestly, that matters more than having twenty different types of cereal. Fresh bread, good coffee, and they actually have local specialties that change seasonally. One thing that really stood out was the parking situation — they have private spots right at the hotel, which if you’ve ever tried to park in Munich, you’ll know is basically gold. No circling blocks or paying ridiculous daily rates at some distant garage.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something to be said for a hotel that doesn’t try too hard but gets the fundamentals absolutely right. The staff clearly knows their regular guests by name, the location gives you that authentic Munich experience without sacrificing convenience, and you’ll actually get a good night’s sleep. It’s the kind of place where you check in feeling like you’ve discovered something special — not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but genuinely comfortable and well-run. For couples especially, there’s this perfect balance of being away from the tourist crowds while still having easy access to everything Munich has to offer.

  We enjoyed our stay. It felt very homely just a short distance from the busy city centre, which was very easy to reach by train. The staff was friendly and helpful; breakfast was very good. Our room was spacious and quiet. We would love to visit again.

  The staff was welcoming and I instantly felt at home. The hotel has a family home feeling, the rooms are spacious and feel cozy. I am a light sleeper so I requested a quiet room facing the garden. I could sleep with the window open because it was so quiet, a really nice experience.
  I also loved the legit gym and sauna space. You have to ask for it at reception but it's legit! They even have tennis courts.

  The location is exceptional, quiet but a 10 min walk to Richard Strauss Straße U-bahn to catch trains to the city quickly. Cafes, restaurants and supermarket within 10m walk. Our room was at the back so we didn't hear the road from our balcony.
  
  What could be improved: The drinks at the bar were a bit expensive for us, we would go out for our afternoon coffee and cake.
