You know what caught me off guard about NYX Hotel Munich? The lobby actually feels like somewhere you’d want to hang out, not just rush through on your way upstairs. I mean, most four-star places have that sterile business hotel vibe, but this one’s got this dark, moody aesthetic that somehow works perfectly in Munich – think industrial chic meets Bavarian sophistication, if that makes any sense. The Leonardo Hotels group clearly put some thought into making this place stand out from the cookie-cutter options around the city.

What I really appreciated was how they handled the whole check-in situation – no endless queues or confused tourists blocking the front desk. The staff actually seems to know Munich well, which honestly isn’t always a given at chain hotels. They pointed me toward this fantastic little bakery just a few blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise, and gave me the real scoop on which U-Bahn stops to avoid during rush hour. The rooms themselves are pretty solid for the price point, with these floor-to-ceiling windows that let in tons of light during those short winter days. The beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that hotel-mattress backache, and there’s actually decent storage space – you’d be surprised how many places skimp on closets.

Here’s the thing though – the neighborhood can get a bit lively on weekends, so if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs or request a room facing away from the main street. But honestly, it’s nothing worse than what you’d expect in any major European city, and the trade-off is that you’re within walking distance of some genuinely good restaurants and bars that locals actually frequent. I watched business travelers and young couples equally comfortable in the lobby bar, which tells you something about how they’ve positioned this place. The 8.3 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises without any nasty surprises. For Munich, where hotel prices can get pretty ridiculous during Oktoberfest or conference season, NYX gives you solid value without making you feel like you’re staying in some budget chain out by the airport.

  Nice atmosphere, comfortable bed, delicious breakfast buffet
  
  What could be improved: We found information online that there were laundry services on site, and we also found this information in the in-suite tablet. However, when we asked at the front desk they informed us that they no longer have laundry services. We had been travelling through Europe for a week before staying here and had planned our laundry to be washed in Munich.

  Clean rooms, friendly staff (we actually got a discount), really good restaurant in the loby (cocktails & burgers) – can become crowded in thr night because people from around the neighbourhood comes here to eat and meet friends, but the atmosphere is cool. The breakfast was also good, pretty basic but the coffee is not good, they need to upgrade their coffee machine .
