Overview

Honestly, when I first pulled up to the Novitel Apartments in München-Trudering, I wasn’t expecting much – you know how apartment hotels can be hit or miss. But this place actually surprised me in some pretty good ways, even if it’s not going to win any luxury awards.

The location is what really works here. I mean, Trudering isn’t exactly the heart of Munich’s old town, but that’s sort of the point. You’re tucked away in this quiet residential area where actual Müncheners live, which gives you a completely different feel than staying near Marienplatz with all the tourists. The S-Bahn connection is honestly pretty solid – about 20 minutes to get into the city center, and there’s this little bakery around the corner (I think it’s on Truderinger Straße) where the locals grab their morning pretzels. The proximity to the Messe is clutch if you’re here for trade shows – you can literally walk there, which saves you from dealing with Munich’s sometimes unpredictable public transport during big events.

What I really appreciated were the apartment-style setups. Each unit has a proper kitchenette, not just some mini-fridge situation, so you can actually cook if you want to save some euros or just crave something homemade after days of German restaurant food (as much as I love schnitzel, you know?). The rooms are clean and functional – nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable enough and there’s decent storage space. The 7.1 rating makes sense to me; it’s not luxury but it delivers on what it promises. Check-in was smooth when I was there, though I did notice the front desk isn’t staffed 24/7, so definitely don’t roll up at 2 AM expecting someone to hand you keys. Parking was surprisingly easy too – there’s actually space, unlike trying to park anywhere in Munich’s center where you’ll circle for an hour.

The vibe is definitely more “extended stay” than “romantic weekend getaway.” I saw a lot of business travelers and families who seemed to be staying for longer stretches, which actually made the whole place feel more relaxed and less transient. The breakfast situation is pretty standard continental fare – nothing to write home about, but it’ll fuel you for the day. One thing that struck me was how quiet it gets at night; being in a residential area means you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around at 3 AM like you would closer to the Altstadt. If you’re someone who values sleep over being able to stumble back from a late night at Hofbräuhaus, this works in your favor. The trade-off is that your evening dining options nearby are more limited – though there’s a decent Turkish place within walking distance that locals seem to love.

The concierge service in Munich can arrange exclusive castle tours, secure reservations at traditional beer halls, and organize day trips to Neuschwanstein Castle and the Bavarian Alps.
