Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place near Ostbahnhof – honestly, that part of Munich isn’t exactly the postcard pretty area most tourists flock to. But the Moxy really surprised me in the best way possible. The whole vibe hits you right when you walk in, and I mean this in a good way – it’s got that industrial-chic thing going on that actually works instead of feeling forced. The lobby doubles as a sort of hangout space where you’ll find a mix of business travelers grabbing coffee at weird hours and younger guests playing foosball (yes, there’s foosball, and yes, people actually use it).

The location is actually pretty clever once you figure out the neighborhood. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from Marienplatz, but Ostbahnhof connects you to everything – S-Bahn lines shoot you straight to the city center in maybe 10 minutes, and honestly, the train connections to other cities are incredible if you’re doing that whole European rail thing. The area around the hotel has been changing a lot lately too. There’s this great Vietnamese place called Saigon Star maybe a five-minute walk away that locals line up for, and a couple of decent late-night spots if you’re into that scene. I’d actually recommend wandering around the Werksviertel area during the day – it’s got this cool mix of old industrial buildings and new tech offices that feels very modern Munich.

What really got me about this place though is how they’ve thought about the small stuff. The rooms aren’t huge – I mean, it’s Europe, what do you expect – but everything feels intentional rather than cramped. The bed was legitimately comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the shower had proper pressure, which you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful without being overly chirpy, and they knew their stuff about getting around the city. One thing to know: if you’re a light sleeper, maybe ask for a room facing away from the main street. It’s not terrible, but there’s definitely some traffic noise, especially in the morning when people are heading to work. The breakfast situation is solid – nothing fancy, but good coffee and enough variety to fuel whatever adventure you’ve got planned. Parking costs extra (welcome to Munich), but there’s decent public transport literally outside your door, so unless you’re planning day trips to the countryside, I’d skip the car entirely. For the price point and that 8.3 rating, this place delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable base in a city that can be pretty expensive to sleep in.

Munich hotels provide guests with luxurious accommodations in Bavaria’s capital, known for its impressive architecture and world-famous beer culture.

Reviews

  • Narita from Netherlands – 28 April 2025 (9/10)

The hotel was rather reasonable, the room was neat and clean, and the staff were nice and friendly.

What could be improved: I wish the hotel were even closer to the station, but still I do not complain. Especially considering the comfortableness and the price, the location is actually not bad, and it is still definitely within a walking distance to get to the nearest major station.

Very clean and modern environment. The touch of bottled water upon arrival was welcomed. The room was warm and confortable, the bathroom was exceptionally clean. Lots of hanging space in the room, with a well considered design. The bed was very comfortable, and soundproofing in the rooms made for a great nights sleep.

  • Badilita from Romania – 2 January 2025 (9/10)

Perfect spot for travelers seeking a stylish yet laid-back stay in the heart of the city! From the moment we arrived, the vibrant and modern decor, combined with the friendly energy of the staff, set the tone for a fantastic experience.

The rooms are very nice, thoughtfully designed, with clever use of space and all the essentials for a comfortable stay. The bed was super cozy, and the mood lighting added a fun, contemporary vibe. Plus, the spotless bathroom with a powerful shower was a big win!

  • Silvia from Spain – 22 December 2024 (9/10)

Super nice room, love the deco, clean, comfortable, 10 min walking from the east Munich station

What could be improved: If I would say something I pay 4 euros for a cup of thea, I found it kinda expensive for a hot water and a bag of tea

  • Ebru from Germany – 22 December 2024 (8/10)

I reserved a room for my parents during their visit to Munich, and overall, they had a pleasant stay. The hotel room was nice and clean, and the environment was quiet, both inside and outside the hotel. For anyone planning a short stay to explore the city, this hotel is a great option. There are supermarkets nearby and everything you might need is within easy reach. The hotel also has a bar and snack machines, which is convenient.
The location is generally good – about 12-15 minutes on foot to the train stations (Ostbahnhof and Innsbrucker Ring). Personally, I found this distance a bit long, but that’s on me for not checking beforehand. Once at the station, it’s very easy to get to the city center, and overall, the hotel isn’t far from the central area.
My parents were happy with their stay, and I have no complaints about the hotel itself. However, I did experience something unexpected at check-in that I think future guests should be aware of.

What could be improved: When I arrived to check my parents in and make the payment (the booking was made through Booking.com), the receptionist began explaining something about a “deposit” in a confusing way – mentioning “first day deposit, second day deposit,” etc. Initially, I thought she was breaking down the cost of the room. But when I saw the amount on the card terminal, it was significantly higher than the booking price.
I asked for clarification, and she explained that the deposit was for any food or drinks consumed at the hotel or bar. I asked if this amount would be refunded if nothing was consumed since it is called 'DEPOSIT', and she said 'NO'. This surprised me, as it didn’t seem like a typical deposit – it felt more like a prepayment for something my parents wouldn’t necessarily use. I explained that if they wanted something from the bar, they would pay for it directly. I also mentioned that there was no mention of this “deposit” on Booking.com, and I preferred to pay the price I initially reserved. The receptionist then said that was also an option, and I paid the original room rate.
In the end, everything worked out, but the initial confusion left me puzzled. I recommend the hotel clarifies this policy upfront during the booking process to avoid surprises at check-in. Otherwise, it was a smooth and comfortable stay for my parents.

  • John from United Kingdom – 12 December 2024 (9/10)

Simple hotel convenient for the East Station

  • Csaba from Hungary – 8 December 2024 (9/10)

The room was clean, well-orgnanized, and pretty large. Check-in and everything else was smooth and easy. Location is pretty close to the train station, and only about 20 minutes from the Old Town.

What could be improved: Thel construction work and fences around several office buildings in the area made it a little challenging to find the way.

  • Susan from Indonesia – 28 November 2024 (8/10)

The location is near the train station
The receptionist gave us rooms next to each other. The receptionist gave us twin bed rooms.

What could be improved: No kettle to make warm water in the room, no glass for drinks
