Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Motel One München-Westend, I wasn’t expecting much from the name alone. “Motel One” sounds pretty basic, right? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s got that sleek, modern German efficiency thing down to a science, and I mean that as a compliment. The lobby hits you with this clean, minimalist vibe – lots of dark wood and those statement lighting fixtures that somehow don’t feel pretentious.

The Westend location is actually pretty clever if you know Munich at all. You’re far enough from the tourist chaos around Marienplatz that you can breathe, but close enough to hop on the U-Bahn and be in the city center in maybe fifteen minutes. I stayed here during Oktoberfest season (I know, I know – rookie move booking so late), and while everywhere else was either booked solid or charging ridiculous rates, this place kept things reasonable. The neighborhood itself has this authentic residential feel – you’ll see actual Müncheners walking their dogs and grabbing coffee, not just tourists stumbling around with maps.

What really won me over was the attention to small stuff that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The shower pressure is fantastic (seriously, after a long day of walking around the city, this matters), and they’ve got these rain showerheads that feel way more luxurious than you’d expect from a 3-star place. The beds are firm in that German way – if you’re used to soft American mattresses, it might take a night to adjust, but I slept incredibly well. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re designed smart. Everything has its place, and there’s actually enough storage for a week-long stay without your stuff exploding everywhere. The WiFi was solid throughout my stay, which – let’s be real – is make-or-break these days.

The breakfast situation deserves a mention too. It’s not some sad continental spread with stale pastries. They do proper German breakfast with fresh bread, good coffee, and enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying several days. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing – check-in was smooth, they had good local recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots, and when I had a minor issue with the room key, they sorted it out without any drama.

Here’s the thing that really sealed it for me: the value. That 8.2 rating isn’t inflated – this place delivers exactly what it promises without trying to be something it’s not. You’re not paying for marble bathrooms or a rooftop pool, but you get a genuinely comfortable, well-designed space that feels more boutique than budget. If you’re the type who spends most of your time exploring the city anyway and just wants a reliable, pleasant base to return to, this hits the sweet spot perfectly. I’d absolutely stay here again, and honestly, I’ve already recommended it to friends planning Munich trips.

  Clean and functional room and bath. This is actually the reason I comment here, I was a distracted by other comments but decided to give the hotel a chance.

  Pretty clean and nice hotel at a relatively great price. Easily accessible with public transport and dining options nearby.

  The hotel is close to the train station. The staffs were nice and friendly. I arrived early in the morning. They kept my suitcase and offered me free coffee.

  Nice clean, quiet room in a business area of Munich. Bed extremely comfortable. Strange to have a single bed cover on a double bed as only one person per room. Staff very friendly and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: no kettle and a fridge provided in the room as bakeries and small stores not convenient, so would be useful. Even during the day to have a facility for tea or coffee in the room is always good.
  Also, no where to sit downstairs when breakfast was served if you did not need breakfast.
  Although we liked the hotel, would need to reconsider if staying in that area of Munich again.

  tram station is about 2 mins walk.
  City center is not close, about 30 minutes walk.
