Hotel Description

So I’ve stayed at Motel One München Hauptbahnhof a handful of times now, and honestly? It’s become my go-to spot when I need to be near the train station without dealing with the chaos of staying right in the tourist madness. The thing is, Munich’s Hauptbahnhof area gets this bad rap for being sketchy, but this place actually sits in a sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk to the station in maybe five minutes, but far enough that you’re not hearing announcements and rolling suitcases at all hours.

What I really appreciate about this Motel One – and I mean this genuinely – is that they’ve figured out how to do budget-friendly without making you feel like you’re roughing it. The rooms are small, sure, but they’re designed smart. Like, really smart. Everything has its place, the bed is actually comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom manages to feel modern even though you could probably touch both walls at once. The signature thing here is their bar area downstairs – it’s got this industrial-chic vibe that doesn’t feel forced, and the staff actually knows how to make a decent drink. I’ve seen business travelers camp out there with laptops, and it works for that too.

Here’s what you should know if you’re thinking about booking: the 8.3 rating makes sense because they nail the basics without any major surprises, good or bad. Check-in is smooth, the WiFi actually works throughout the building, and – this matters more than you’d think – the elevator is fast and doesn’t sound like it’s about to give up. The neighborhood comes alive during the day with office workers grabbing lunch, but it gets pretty quiet after 7 PM, which I actually prefer. You’re a ten-minute walk from the pedestrian zone if you want that Munich beer hall experience, but you can also just duck into one of the local spots nearby where you won’t pay tourist prices. The S-Bahn connections are obviously incredible from here – you can get to the airport, to Marienplatz, pretty much anywhere without overthinking it. I wouldn’t call it a destination hotel or anything like that, but for three stars? It punches above its weight, especially if you’re someone who values location and efficiency over having a concierge or room service.

Munich’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of Bavarian tradition and modern comfort, with many featuring brewery tour services and authentic Alpine hospitality.

  • Abdelilah from Morocco – 14 April 2025 (9/10)

New property, so everything is new and in excellent condition, and staff are very helpful

What could be improved: Probably more catering options instead of breakfast alone, but I understand as it is still a new hotel

  • Marc from Luxembourg – 13 April 2025 (8/10)

  • Shimony from Israel – 11 April 2025 (9/10)

A beautiful new boutique hotel with friendly stuff. perfectly located just steps from Munich’s train station. Thoughtfully designed and elegantly styled, it offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city – ideal for both business and leisure travelers

  • Albano from United Kingdom – 13 May 2025 (4/10)

What could be improved: I had great deal of problems getting the card which reserved the accommodation, we where not invoiced as originally discussed with hotel and booking.com. Payment was tried to be taken under the incorrect name and wanted a to refund the original guests and invoice the company or take payment from the original card under the correct name. I spent 3 days trying to do this with no resolution to the request very unsatisfied.

  • Vasos from Cyprus – 10 April 2025 (5/10)

    Location and comfortable bed

What could be improved: Check in only one person available at reception. We pay a premium €527 for one night due to the high demand during Bauma messe but they can’t have the staff to offer the service !
    Also breakfast was very basic

  • Michael from Switzerland – 23 May 2025 (8/10)

    Modern und neu

  • André from Germany – 21 May 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Das Frühstück ist zu teuer.
