Motel One München-East Side Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Motel One München-East Side, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical budget chain hotel. The lobby has this sleek, modern design that feels more boutique than motel — honestly, the name is a bit misleading in the best way possible. It’s a three-star property that punches well above its weight, and you can tell they’ve put real thought into the details without going overboard. The attention to quality finishes and thoughtful layout makes an immediate positive impression on arrival. The sophisticated color scheme and contemporary furniture create an atmosphere that exceeds expectations for this price point.
The Au-Haidhausen Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re in Au-Haidhausen, which is one of those Munich neighborhoods that locals actually hang out in. You’re not stuck in some touristy bubble near Marienplatz, though that’s easily reachable. The area has this authentic Bavarian vibe with traditional beer gardens mixed in with trendy cafes. Couples especially seem to get this, consistently rating the location around 8.5. When you can walk to the Isar River for morning jogs or evening strolls, you understand why this neighborhood appeals to so many visitors. The proximity to public transportation makes exploring the wider city incredibly convenient.
The Room Experience
The room design follows Motel One’s signature style — clean lines, that distinctive turquoise accent wall, and everything you actually need without unnecessary frills. What impressed me most was how they’ve maximized the space; it doesn’t feel cramped even though it’s efficiently designed. The bed is genuinely comfortable, and the shower has proper water pressure, which can be hit-or-miss in European hotels. The windows are well-insulated too, so street noise isn’t really an issue. Smart storage solutions and quality linens add to the overall comfort level.
Breakfast and Practical Matters
The breakfast setup here is quite impressive for a three-star property. They’ve got continental options, but what sets it apart is the proper vegetarian and vegan selection — not just an afterthought of sad fruit and bread. The buffet flows well, and even during busy morning hours, it doesn’t feel chaotic. Parking is available on-site, which honestly saves you a lot of headache in Munich where finding a spot can be challenging. There’s also a restaurant area that transitions nicely from breakfast to evening drinks. The staff maintains high standards throughout service hours.
Why Guests Love It
What really makes this place work is that balance between style and substance without the pretension. You’re getting solid value — recent guests consistently rate it 8.3 overall, and that location score of 8.6 speaks volumes. It’s the kind of place where business travelers feel comfortable, couples find it romantic enough for a city break, and solo travelers appreciate the safety and connectivity. You’re close enough to Munich’s center to feel connected but far enough out to experience the city like locals do. That authentic neighborhood experience is worth more than marble bathrooms and overpriced minibars. The combination of modern amenities and genuine local character creates lasting positive memories.
Early hotels booking in Munich requires advance planning during peak festival seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s renowned beer culture and Alpine atmosphere.

The staff were very nice and helpful
Jennifer from Ireland – 18 March 2025 (8/10)
Small comfortable hotel in East Munich. Perfect location for visiting the university with lots of restaurants closeby. The lobby / bar area is a nice hang out spot. Rooms are pretty simply furnished in comparison but spotlessly clean and functional.
Sally from Australia – 31 January 2025 (8/10)
We arrived very early from a long flight from Australia and the staff kindly allowed us into our room to freshen up before heading out for the day. We also chose this particular location as it was an easy walk with our luggage to the train station.
Veronika from Poland – 1 January 2025 (9/10)
Clean room, comfortable bed and pillows, working AC, very close to München Ost station, amazing stuff, very friendly and been helpful with every favor we asked them for!
What could be improved: If I had to find something I didn’t like it would be the size of the room (if only it was just a little bit bigger) and not so smooth walls.Cristina from Romania – 17 December 2024 (9/10)
The hotel is well located if you need to access various points in Munich via public transport. It is rather new and very clean. The staff is nice and helpful (thank you Veronika!). We liked the fact that, should a room be available, they will check you in early, without surcharge. Hotels used to do this, but is becoming a rarity. The breakfast is good, but minimal. In the evenings the breakfast space turns into a bar, which can even serve some sandwiches for the hungry tourist caught off-guard by the restaurant closing times in Munich.
What could be improved: Warm food options for breakfast would have been a plus. The breakfast space is quite small and overcrowded most of the time.Grace from United Kingdom – 8 December 2024 (9/10)
Clean and very convenient location.
My room is facing the main road and a huge construction site, but the window is noise-proof so really helpful.
What could be improved: The breakfast could have more selection.Sofia from Germany – 3 December 2024 (8/10)
Clean cozy easy to find a parking spot and it also has its own parking. With the train very close to the center, distance theoretically also walkable.
What could be improved: Small rooms and not sooo close to the center but we knew that alreadyTalitha from Switzerland – 20 November 2024 (8/10)
