Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Motel One München – Deutsches Museum, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical budget chain hotel. The lobby has this sleek, modern vibe that feels way more upscale than what you’d expect from a three-star property. I mean, the design is clean and contemporary — dark wood, pops of color, and these really comfortable seating areas where you actually want to hang out for a bit before heading to your room. The attention to detail in the public spaces sets the tone for the entire stay.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying in Au-Haidhausen — you’re basically in one of Munich’s best-kept secrets. This neighborhood sits right along the Isar River, and honestly, it feels more like where locals actually live rather than just another tourist zone. The Deutsches Museum is literally a few minutes’ walk away, which is perfect if you’re into science and technology exhibits. What I really love though is how easy it is to get into the city center — the S-Bahn connections are solid, and you can even walk along the river into the heart of Munich when the weather’s nice. The riverside setting provides a peaceful retreat from urban bustle.
The Room Experience
You know what really surprised me? The beds here are genuinely comfortable — like, better than some four-star places I’ve stayed at. The rooms themselves follow that same modern aesthetic from the lobby, with everything you need but nothing unnecessary cluttering up the space. There’s decent storage, a good-sized desk if you need to work, and the bathroom is compact but well-designed. The windows actually open too, which is something I always appreciate in European hotels. Each room feels thoughtfully planned for both comfort and functionality.
Breakfast & Amenities
The breakfast setup here is actually pretty impressive for a mid-range hotel. They’ve got continental options, but also vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices — which honestly covers most dietary needs you might have. It’s buffet-style, so you can take your time and not feel rushed. There’s also private parking available, which in Munich is basically gold — trust me on this one. If you’re driving, you’ll definitely want to book that in advance. The combination of dining flexibility and parking convenience makes this property particularly practical.
Why Guests Love It
What really stands out is how many people come back here — there are way more repeat guests than you’d typically see, which tells you something about the experience. Couples seem to particularly love this spot, and I get why. The location gives you that local Munich feel without being stuck way out in the suburbs, the rooms are comfortable enough for a romantic getaway, and the whole vibe is relaxed but polished. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re getting more than what you paid for, which honestly doesn’t happen as often as it should when you’re traveling. The consistent positive feedback from returning guests speaks volumes about the quality of service and value offered.

Guest Reviews
Great bar area downstairs which was especially helpful with a late flight out of Munich. The staff have all been exceptionally helpful and friendly.
What could be improved: Room is on the smaller side when travelling with 2 large bags but this was manageable. The other great qualities of the motel made this a non issue for us.
Comfortable, good staff, good breakfast, spotless. I would certainly choose motel one again
Modern, clean and well-located hotel. Very nice and lively bar. Gave me a calm room, as requested.
What could be improved: Not a big deal, but a complimentary bottle of water in the room might have been nice.
Style
What could be improved: Small room for two people with luggage.
Modern and clean
What could be improved: Lots of kids running down hallways and we hear every single one.
Location, staff, facilities
What could be improved: No phone in hotel room
I think the hotel is good with a nice location and very convenient to the city.
I didn’t know this chain hotel before, it was much better than any other low cost ones. Very neatly arranged, great value for money, few minutes walk from the old town. Good variety breakfast with gluten-free and non-dairy options. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.
What could be improved: Rooms are small. A coffee machine or water heater would be nice.
My wife got sick, but the staff were so great at assisting.
The beds are extremely comfy and the staff very helpful and friendly.
