You know what? When I first pulled up to Motel One München-Campus, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s got “motel” right in the name, right? But honestly, this place completely flipped my assumptions. It’s actually one of those sleek, modern chain hotels that the Germans do really well, and despite being a 3-star property, it punches way above its weight.

The whole vibe here is what I’d call “smart minimalism” – think clean lines, dark wood accents, and this surprisingly sophisticated color scheme that somehow makes even a standard room feel more expensive than it is. The lobby has this cool, almost industrial feel with exposed concrete and these massive floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light. What really caught my attention though was how quiet everything was, even during what seemed like a busy check-in period. The staff moves efficiently but never feels rushed, and I swear the woman at reception remembered my name without looking at her screen – small touch, but it matters.

The rooms are compact but thoughtfully designed, sort of like a well-organized studio apartment where everything has its place. The bed is legitimately comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and they’ve got these blackout curtains that actually work – no annoying strips of light creeping in at 6 AM. I loved the rain shower, though fair warning, the bathroom is pretty small even by European standards. The whole “campus” theme makes sense once you realize this isn’t just a random name – the area has this young, energetic feel with plenty of students around, which keeps things lively without being obnoxious. You’ll find decent coffee shops within walking distance, and there’s actually a pretty good Vietnamese place around the corner that locals seem to frequent.

What impressed me most was the attention to detail for a mid-range property. The WiFi is genuinely fast (I was video calling without issues), there are plenty of power outlets positioned where you’d actually want them, and the air conditioning responds quickly – crucial during Munich’s surprisingly warm summers. The 8.4 rating makes total sense to me; it’s not trying to be a luxury experience, but everything it does attempt, it executes really well. If you’re looking for a place that feels contemporary and well-run without the premium price tag, this is honestly a solid choice.

Hotel in Munich booking should be done early, especially during Oktoberfest when the city hosts the world’s largest beer festival and cultural celebration.

  What could be improved: I wanted to pay cash with a €500 bank note, but the person at the front desk refused it, saying they don’t accept this type of bank notes. Given the fact that hotels have higher price points in comparison to a corner little shop, I found his attitude unprofessional

  Very nice to discover this jewel of hotel, I really don't unnderstand why it's called motel, because it has all facilities and even more than a regular hotel. Thank you for a wonderful, seamless stay!

  I like the location, The cleanness, Stathe, Facilities and especially the beautiful view, I will come again alone and with my family, Concerning the cost, it will be a good offer relating what the hotel is offering, But the breakfast must be more varieties . Thank you .

  Very nice staff at front desk and in the restaurant (breakfast ~20€). Facility is clean and nice in appearance. Beds were comfortable. Good water pressure with hot water for shower. Hotel has a parking garage 15€/night. Location is close to REWE and has some restaurants in the area (Indian, Italian, the ubiquitous Donor place and a burger shop – Unique Burger is very good). Close walking distance to U-bahn (U1 Wettersteinplatz) and the tram S-25 (Tegernseer Landstrasse). For soccer fans, it is very close to the arena for the 1860 Munchen.
  
  What could be improved: The lights would not turn on in the bathroom the last day there. Not a light bulb problem but a switch problem. The front desk personnel gave us access to an unused room across the hall so my wife could put on her make-up. We appreciated the quick response to the problem.
