You know what caught me off guard about MOMA1890? The name made me expect some stuffy art-themed place with abstract sculptures in the lobby, but honestly, it’s got this really warm, lived-in boutique vibe that just works. I mean, there are definitely artistic touches throughout – the kind of thoughtful design details that make you pause and actually look around instead of just rushing to your room.

The whole place feels like someone actually put thought into how people move through a hotel. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and the staff seemed to genuinely know their stuff about the area rather than just reciting scripted recommendations. My room had this perfect balance of character and function – not too precious where you’re afraid to touch anything, but definitely a step up from your standard business hotel setup. The bed situation was solid (always my main concern), and I appreciated that they didn’t go overboard with throw pillows you have to move every single night. What really got me was the attention to lighting – you could actually read comfortably, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get this wrong.

The 8.9 rating makes total sense once you spend a day or two there. It’s not trying to be everything to everyone, which I actually prefer. The common areas have this natural gathering spot quality without feeling forced, and I noticed guests actually hanging out and having conversations rather than everyone just staring at their phones. Honestly, the whole atmosphere reminded me of those boutique places you stumble across in European cities where everything just clicks. Sure, it’s a 4-star property so you’re not getting marble bathrooms or a full spa, but the experience feels more authentic than a lot of higher-end chains I’ve stayed at. I’d definitely book here again – sometimes you just know when a place gets it right, and this one does.

  Wonderful, small central hotel. Lovely rooms, breakfast and staff so helpful and welcoming. Great bathrooms, well appointed. Quiet rooms even though it is so close to Ostbahnhof. Would definitely stay here again.

  Great location and lovely surroundings neighbourhood. Complimentary soft drinks and coffee in the hotel were a nice touch. The room was a good spacious and very clean

  The staff at the reception desk and in the breakfast room was so friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to help us with recommendations, restaurants, directions.
