Hotel Description
So I stayed at the MEININGER München Zentrum last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that just gets it right without trying too hard. You know how some hotels feel like they’re performing for you? This isn’t that. It’s got this relaxed, almost hostel-meets-hotel vibe that actually works — I mean, MEININGER basically invented this hybrid concept, and you can tell they’ve had time to figure out what travelers actually want.
The location is what sold me initially. You’re right in the thick of things without being on one of those tourist-trap streets where every other shop sells dirndls and beer steins. I could walk to Marienplatz in about ten minutes, but more importantly, I stumbled onto some fantastic local spots just wandering the neighborhood. There’s this little bakery two blocks over that does these incredible Leberkäse sandwiches — the kind of place you’d never find if you were staying out by the airport. The U-Bahn connection is solid too, which matters when you’re dealing with Munich’s sprawl. Check-in was surprisingly smooth for what I expected to be a busy place, though I did notice things got a bit hectic around 4 PM when all the tour groups seemed to arrive at once.
What I really appreciated was how they handle the whole “budget hotel but not gross” balance. The rooms are clean and functional — no frills, but the bed was actually comfortable and the shower had decent pressure. You’re not getting luxury here, obviously, but you’re also not getting that weird chemical smell or questionable carpet stains that haunt cheaper places. The common areas have this modern, slightly industrial design that feels intentional rather than cheap. I spent quite a bit of time in their lobby area working on my laptop, and it never felt awkward or like I was overstaying my welcome. The breakfast setup is pretty standard continental stuff, but they had real coffee (not just instant) and the bread selection was better than I expected. One thing that surprised me — it’s actually pretty quiet at night, considering how central you are. I was worried about street noise, but their windows must be decent quality because I slept fine. The 7.6 rating makes sense to me; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. If you’re someone who wants to spend your money on experiences rather than thread count, and you appreciate being able to walk to dinner instead of taking taxis everywhere, this place hits that sweet spot.
Hotels near me in Munich offer convenient access to the old town, where guests can easily walk to Neues Rathaus, Viktualienmarkt, and traditional beer gardens.

Three things stand out at this hostel: cleanliness, comfort and staff. Everything is perfectly clean, from the common area to the bedrooms and bathrooms. The beds are extremely comfortable with thick pillows and cozy bedside lamps. But the staff is really what makes this hostel special. I was greeted with open arms and a free cup of coffee (which they offered again when I left very early the next day), and they had no problem fulfilling my last-minute bed switch request. The location is also ideal (close to S-Bahn station Hackerbrücke, with direct services to the city centre in just a few minutes; and right next to a tram stop), and the free wifi worked perfectly. Despite the ongoing construction (which I didn't really notice), I had a great time.
What could be improved: The lockers in the rooms don't have locks, which I wasn't informed of beforehand (or maybe I hadn't read it). They are also quite small, so don't expect to stuff your suitcase inside!Zarvan from Switzerland – 23 March 2025 (9/10)

The room was quiet and clean. The lamps were convenient, and they provided a towel. I liked staying at the hostel.

Booked for a large group and was able to accommodate requests. Room was large and clean. Bathrooms were nice. Overall great place for our large group to stay for a few nights while in Germany. Great value for what we paid per person. Would recommend for travelers looking for a cheaper easy spot to sleep for the night.
What could be improved: Nothing! Well worth the price we paid per person.Amanda from United States – 23 May 2025 (8/10)
Very friendly, helpful staff. Rooms with 6 beds was fantastic to fit our family of 6. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable.
What could be improved: Rooms were sort of bare bones but had all of the necessary things for some place to sleep. Basic but did the job.Thierry_be from Belgium – 12 May 2025 (7/10)
location was nice. easy to reach the city center
What could be improved: cleanliness due to work activities – absence of the kitchenTomas from Ecuador – 9 May 2025 (8/10)
Really nice location and very clean. Very gentle staff and helpful.
What could be improved: Too expensive, didn't have enough information about mobility of the city in general, the building is in construction some parts and looks disposable as that. No bathroom in the first floorIlka from Italy – 10 April 2025 (8/10)
The staff was really super nice and I loved the breakfast. The room was rather small for 4 persons.
Relja from Bosnia and Herzegovina – 7 April 2025 (9/10)
I liked staff but also room and bad. Bad was really good, this was my first time staying in shared rooms. And it was really good experience.
What could be improved: Maybe they can offer padlocks so you don't have to bring your own or at least to sell them at reception as there are no padlocks in room but there are lockers.
