Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked into the Maritim Hotel München – honestly, the lobby felt a bit corporate at first glance, like something you’d find in any business district. But here’s the thing about this place: it grows on you, and there are some genuinely smart touches that make it work better than its 4-star rating might suggest.

The location is actually pretty clever if you know Munich at all. Sure, you’re not stumbling out onto Marienplatz (which, let’s be honest, gets exhausting anyway), but you’re close enough to the action without dealing with the tourist chaos. I mean, the U-Bahn connections are solid, and there’s something to be said for being able to walk back to your hotel after a long day at Oktoberfest without fighting through crowds of people taking selfies with every pretzel stand. The neighborhood has that proper Munich feel – you’ll see locals grabbing coffee in the morning, not just tour groups with matching backpacks. Parking was surprisingly manageable too, which anyone who’s driven in Munich will tell you is basically a miracle.

What really won me over were the details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere, not just passing through. The rooms are bigger than you’d expect – I could actually open my suitcase without doing some weird furniture shuffle. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have that solid, no-nonsense German engineering feel. Nothing fancy, but everything works exactly like it should. The breakfast spread is honestly pretty decent – they do this thing with local Bavarian specialties mixed in with the usual hotel fare, and the coffee is strong enough to prepare you for whatever Munich throws at you. I appreciated that the staff seemed to actually know the city well; when I asked about getting to the English Garden early in the morning, the guy at the front desk gave me specific timing advice that saved me from tourist crowds.

Look, this isn’t going to be the most Instagram-worthy place you’ll ever stay – it’s got that slightly serious business hotel vibe that some people find boring. But if you want a reliable base in Munich where you can actually sleep well, take a proper shower, and not feel like you’re being nickel-and-dimed for everything, the Maritim delivers. That 7.8 rating feels about right to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does the important stuff well, and in a city where hotel prices can get absolutely ridiculous, especially during festival season, it offers solid value. Plus, there’s something refreshingly honest about a place that doesn’t try to oversell itself with a bunch of fancy marketing speak.

The concierge service in Munich can arrange exclusive castle tours, secure reservations at traditional beer halls, and organize day trips to Neuschwanstein Castle and the Bavarian Alps.

Reviews

  • Robert from United States – 23 May 2025 (9/10)

Location was fantastic. Feet away from the HBF. Very good breakfast, very nice room and bed. Very good hotel if you are visiting Munich.

  • Filippo from United Kingdom – 22 May 2025 (8/10)

    Nice and near the centre

  • Ann from United States – 17 May 2025 (7/10)

Location was good, room was nice, pool was relaxing

What could be improved: AC didn’t work well, didn’t like that you have to pay extra for robe and sauna, people at breakfast were rude and inconsistent. One day they ask you if you want coffee, the next day they do not. Need to rotate hot foods at breakfast.

  • David from United Kingdom – 16 May 2025 (8/10)

Clean, comfortable, very good breakfast. There were good restaurants around. Pool was quiet. Direct access from car park to the hotel, close to a railway station.

What could be improved: Seemed to be in a bit of a rough area, the road the hotel is on is currently one way (Google Maps didn’t seem to know this), the car park is not obvious (at least in a right hand drive car – from the forecourt go through a passage to the left of the hotel and do an immediate U-turn to the left – in fairness it is obvious when you know), my wife felt the staff could have helped her with the bags rather than just watching (we had unloaded some cases while I parked the car).

  • Michael from Ireland – 8 May 2025 (8/10)

Everything. Conceirge, pool, breakfast, location, piano bar. It was great

What could be improved: I found one or two staff at reception to be rude at times. I had an issue where too much money was taken for the stay and it took a lot of coming and going to get the issue resolved and this was down to the shortness of 1 or 2 staff members

  • Thomas from United Kingdom – 6 May 2025 (8/10)

First time using the pool / sauna, well worth the money

What could be improved: Fire alarm at 4am with very limited communication from staff

  • Julie from Netherlands – 5 May 2025 (9/10)

Nice pool, comfy beds, comfortable room – great place to stay

  • Bruns from United Kingdom – 5 May 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: No Usb ports to charge electricals ie phone etc.

  • David from United Kingdom – 5 May 2025 (8/10)

Great location, comfortable bed (no kettle or iron though, apparently we needed to have booked a better room). Excellent staff, nice bar – one of the best negronis ever, ably mixed by Lisa.

What could be improved: Didn’t appreciate no iron or kettle. Also, the water pressure in the bathroom tap was so high it was difficult not to cover everything in water!

  • Oz from Israel – 28 April 2025 (8/10)

Great location, nice staff, parking, clean, nice design

What could be improved: The bed was not so comfortable
