Maison Schiller by DesignCity Hotels Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Maison Schiller by DesignCity Hotels, you immediately get that “this is going to be good” feeling. The building sits right on Schillerstraße in Ludwigsvorstadt — honestly, one of those Munich neighborhoods that feels authentically local but still puts you within walking distance of everything that matters. It’s a four-star property that doesn’t try too hard to impress, which I actually appreciate. The entrance has this understated elegance that hints at the design-forward approach without being flashy about it.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re in Ludwigsvorstadt, which means you get the real Munich experience without the tourist circus. The location score of 8.0 makes perfect sense when you realize you can walk to the old town in about fifteen minutes, but you’re staying in a neighborhood where actual locals grab their morning coffee. There’s something special about being able to duck into a proper Bavarian pub around the corner, then wake up the next morning and stroll to Marienplatz. Couples seem to really get this balance — I mean, there’s a reason they rate it so highly for romantic trips.
The Room Experience
The room design is where DesignCity Hotels really shows what they’re about. Clean lines, thoughtful touches, and — you know what I noticed? — they actually understand that travelers need functional spaces, not just Instagram-worthy ones. The rooms feel modern without being cold, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase properly. I appreciated the attention to lighting too; you can actually read comfortably in the evening, which sounds basic but honestly, so many hotels get this wrong.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup here is surprisingly comprehensive for a hotel this size. They’ve got continental options, vegetarian choices, gluten-free selections — basically, they’ve thought through what different travelers actually need rather than just throwing together a standard buffet. The quality is solid, and I found myself lingering over coffee longer than usual, which is always a good sign. It’s the kind of breakfast that sets you up properly for a day of exploring without feeling rushed or underwhelmed.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about Maison Schiller is that it strikes this perfect balance between being design-conscious and genuinely comfortable. The 8.2 rating reflects what you experience — a hotel that delivers on the fundamentals while adding those thoughtful details that make a stay memorable. You’re not paying for unnecessary frills, but you’re getting quality in the things that actually matter. For couples especially, there’s something about the combination of the neighborhood’s authentic feel and the hotel’s modern comfort that just clicks. It’s the kind of place you’d actually want to return to, not just check off a list.
Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Munich through trusted local agencies that provide insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for experiencing the city’s rich Bavarian heritage.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was unique.
What could be improved: Location was very close to the central Munich area, but there were a lot of young people hanging around outside.Mehmet from Turkey – 14 April 2025 (9/10)

The staff were delightful, the decor gorgeous, location great and it was spotlessly clean. My only only criticism is the room are tiny. A double bed against the wall is not ideal for a couple.

Very cozy and clean rooms. Silent rooms, good beds.
Quality bathroom showers and faucets. Great room overall.
What could be improved: The only problem with this hotel is the location. The neighbourhood is a disaster – full of Arabs, Afgans and alike. Full of men reeking of alcohol and pot. Very dangerous in the evening. Mix of ugly jewelry stores, smelly unhealthy food, striptease clubs and car drifting in the evening.
This is Germany? Disaster.Valentino from Australia – 8 February 2025 (8/10)
Great accommodation and room facilities

This small hotel was lovely. I don’t know if it has been refurbished recently but everything felt shiny and new and very clean. It is in a location we like, outside the very centre but close enough to be able to walk to the highlights of Munich. The main train station is just a short walk away. The room has a coffee machine, a fridge and a safe. The bathroom in our room was compact but the shower was a great size.
