Maison Schiller by DesignCity Hotels Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of boutique hotels that promise “design-forward” experiences and deliver generic minimalism, but Maison Schiller actually gets it right. Walking into the lobby, you immediately notice they’ve nailed that sweet spot between stylish and welcoming – there’s real thought behind the design choices, not just expensive furniture arranged by committee.
The DesignCity Hotels group has this knack for finding properties with good bones and letting the local character shine through, and honestly, that’s what makes Maison Schiller work. The rooms feel curated rather than cookie-cutter, with touches that suggest someone who actually lives in the city had input on the interiors. You know what I mean? Like, the lighting is warm enough that you don’t feel like you’re in an operating room, and the bathroom setup is clearly designed by someone who’s actually had to get ready for an early morning meeting in a hotel room. Small things, but they add up.
What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to know their stuff beyond the usual script – they gave recommendations that felt genuine rather than rehearsed. The front desk team actually knew which restaurants were worth the walk and which ones were just tourist traps with good marketing. That kind of local knowledge is surprisingly rare at four-star places these days. The 8.2 rating makes sense when you experience the service firsthand; it’s not quite luxury-level pampering, but it’s solid, reliable hospitality with personality behind it.
I will say, if you’re the type who needs everything to be absolutely perfect, you might notice some quirks – this isn’t a chain hotel where every detail has been focus-grouped to death. But honestly, those little imperfections are part of what gives the place character. The neighborhood itself has this lived-in energy that feels authentic, and Maison Schiller fits right into that vibe. You’re not staying in some sterile hotel bubble; you’re actually experiencing the city. Morning coffee runs become mini-adventures, and you start to feel like a temporary local rather than just another tourist checking boxes.
Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Munich through trusted local agencies that provide insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for experiencing the city’s rich Bavarian heritage.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was unique.
What could be improved: Location was very close to the central Munich area, but there were a lot of young people hanging around outside.Mehmet from Turkey – 14 April 2025 (9/10)

The staff were delightful, the decor gorgeous, location great and it was spotlessly clean. My only only criticism is the room are tiny. A double bed against the wall is not ideal for a couple.

Very cozy and clean rooms. Silent rooms, good beds.
Quality bathroom showers and faucets. Great room overall.
What could be improved: The only problem with this hotel is the location. The neighbourhood is a disaster – full of Arabs, Afgans and alike. Full of men reeking of alcohol and pot. Very dangerous in the evening. Mix of ugly jewelry stores, smelly unhealthy food, striptease clubs and car drifting in the evening.
This is Germany? Disaster.Valentino from Australia – 8 February 2025 (8/10)
Great accommodation and room facilities

This small hotel was lovely. I don’t know if it has been refurbished recently but everything felt shiny and new and very clean. It is in a location we like, outside the very centre but close enough to be able to walk to the highlights of Munich. The main train station is just a short walk away. The room has a coffee machine, a fridge and a safe. The bathroom in our room was compact but the shower was a great size.
