Hotel Description
So I stumbled across the Leonardo Boutique Hotel Munich during what was honestly a pretty frantic last-minute booking situation, and you know what? Sometimes those panic reservations work out better than the ones you spend months researching. This place sits right in the sweet spot of Munich’s hotel scene – it’s got that boutique feel without trying too hard to be trendy, if that makes sense.
The first thing that hit me walking into the lobby was how they’d managed to nail that modern German design thing without making it feel cold or sterile. There’s this really nice balance of clean lines and warm touches – honestly, it reminded me of staying at a friend’s place if that friend happened to have impeccable taste and a serious furniture budget. The staff at check-in were refreshingly straightforward, none of that overly enthusiastic hotel theater you get sometimes. Just efficient and genuinely helpful, which I actually prefer.
What really sold me on the place, though, was how it felt like they understood what travelers actually need. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Munich, after all, where space comes at a premium – but everything’s laid out intelligently. The bed was properly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and they’d thought about things like having enough outlets near the desk and decent lighting for reading. The bathroom had one of those rain showers that actually works, not the sad trickle you sometimes get. I mean, it’s not going to blow your mind, but it hits all the marks without any of those weird design choices that look great in photos but make zero sense when you’re living in the space.
Location-wise, you’re well-positioned to explore without being stuck in the tourist chaos. It’s close enough that you can walk to the main sights when you feel like it, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the constant street noise and crowds that come with being right in the Altstadt. The area has some solid local spots for dinner – I found this great traditional Bavarian place just a few blocks away that didn’t have a single tourist menu in sight. Public transport connections are solid too, which matters more than you’d think when your feet are tired from wandering around all day.
Honestly, the Leonardo Boutique delivers exactly what a good four-star should: comfort, reliability, and just enough character to make it memorable without any of the pretentious nonsense. It’s the kind of place where everything works the way it’s supposed to, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out during video calls, and you wake up feeling like you actually slept well. Sometimes that’s worth more than all the fancy amenities in the world, especially when you’re trying to make the most of your time in a city like Munich.
Munich’s apartments offer spacious accommodations with Alpine charm, perfect for families wanting to experience daily life in this traditionally German city.

They provided a baby bed free of charge, the room was ready before official check in time. Personnel was extra friendly and helpful. Parking options for an extra cost, however great to avoid searching for additional options and/or paying more expensive options nearby
What could be improved: There are stairs to access the elevator, as well as to access some rooms, making it very difficult to maneuver the stroller.Ioana from Romania – 11 October 2024 (8/10)
The location was very good
What could be improved: The bathroomDaniela from Australia – 22 September 2024 (7/10)
The size of the room was great and it was in a great location with lots of added benefits such as snacks and drinks at the front counter.
What could be improved: Although there was a lift we still had to navigate stairs including from the lift to our room. Car park was tiny and it is difficult to find on street parking.Monique from Brazil – 23 August 2024 (6/10)
The location is perfect! Staff in the reception were very nice and friendly. The staff taking care of breakfast were grumpy. Which I understand since I am not a morning person as well.
What could be improved: Ac not working well. Old and dark rooms. A bit smellyDouwene from United Kingdom – 12 August 2024 (8/10)
Rooms were clean and air-conditioned. Beds were really comfortable. Coffee and water provided in the rooms. There were even welcome drinks. Bus stop is located within a few meters from the hotel.
What could be improved: Decor on the floors was dated and carpets worn.Gvc from Netherlands – 12 August 2024 (8/10)
It a hotel on an excellent location in town, in between the old city center and the area known as Maxvorstadt: museums, the university, antiquarian bookshops, and lots of cafes and restaurants, and consequently lots of students (who can be rather noisy in the evening).
What could be improved: I know this hotel and I like it. But this time I liked it quite a bit less. After checking in I was told I had a room (a nice one though) on the sixth floor. Only after arriving at the elevator I noticed it didn't work. It simply said "temporarily out of order". And that was it. So I had to climb six stories, twelve sets of stairs, every time I wanted to get to my room for whatever reason for the duration of my stay (three days, but I guess and had the feeling the technical problem was not completely brand new).
For me six stories (twelve sets of stairs) isn't a lot of fun, it was clearly bothering and it lowered if not damaged my enjoyment of my trip to Munich. I just didn't like having to go up and down all these stairs every time. At my age (clearly way over 50) during a supposedly nice trip I didn't want to have the feeling of being in a fitness studio every day. And just imagine being someone really older, or even with some problems (heart or mobility or whatever), and having quite some luggage…. then suddenly the hotel becomes hell on earth.
I've seen a younger woman accompanying a clearly older woman (I presume her mother) downstairs ('only' from the first floor down, that's called 'being lucky'….) and I could see in the older woman's face it wasn't much fun. I already hated having to go all the way up and down every time, but you simply cannot offer that kind of facility to all customers as if it's normal, let alone offering that kind of 'service' to the impaired ones. As management you just have to come with a solution, one way or another. So, although I still liked my room and its facilities, as well as the superb breakfast and the location/environment of the hotel, this stay was a bit of a bummer, and – I'm sorry to say – not worth the money.
The people at the desk were great, they can't help it, but their manager should be upgraded.Johnathan from United Kingdom – 11 August 2024 (7/10)
